hi all looking for advice. were currently considering buying a caravan after having a tent for a few years.considered buying a static but you are tied to one site and financially you loose alot of money if you come to sell.site owners usually have you over a barrel.also looked into a motorhome but they are expensive and you have to pay out on two sets of running costs as well as running our car.looked at a touring caravan but would have to change our panda to something bigger, which when you do 15k miles a year would see a significant rise it fuel costs, plus im not very confident when coming to towing.so thats left us with a seasonal tourer where we buy a touring caravan and have it sited permanantley on a site al year.just wondedered if anybody does this and the pros and cons.what are the site fees and are there any sites that allow this around scarborough whitby filey way.

We have done this before and the site allow us to leave in in position and just pay for the nights we go down to use it. Brilliant arrangement.
Sorry - forgot to say not around your way. Its down south
We used to have our tourer sited for the season and took it off at the end of October till March. As you say it is cheaper than a static and a tourer will not lose as much value when you sell on. The pros for us was that when we fancied a change we towed it to wherever for the week/fortnight but didn't have to tow it every weekend. Another plus for me was that when I fancied a week's holiday but OH was working I was able to drive there myself (I don't tow). The site we were on did not have any statics (not allowed by the local council) but had loads of tourers sited for the season. It was a good system for us and when we got bored with the area after 5 years or so we used our tourer as a tourer (pre campervan).

my plan is to have it in east yorkshire for 2 or 3 years and then maybe move it to north wales.as you say when we get bored we can have it moved to a different part of the country.
So you don't want a static 'cos you're tied to one site, but you want to leave a tourer on a site all year!
Stick to a tent and stop depriving REAL tourers of a site all season.
I think that is a fairly selfish view. OP can make choices same as the rest of us. Sometimes we do this - sometimes we don't. That's why we choose to have a tourer.

Checkout Browns Caravan Park at Cayton Bay, they do have seasonal pitches and the site itself is first class. We are considering doing the same.
just had a look on browns website, looks great, thanks
