We've (well Oh mainly!!) decided that first on our list of priorities for the new van is an aerial as the current one is rubbish and there is no signal. Personally I dont mind a weekend without the TV but can see that if we were away by ourselves for longer it might be quite nice to snuggle up and watch a bit of TV after a busy day!
So anyway weve more or less decided to get the Staus 530/5 as FIL has one and always gets a great picture. So my question is anyone else used this model and also does anyone have any idea of what it might cost to install. I dont feel it is something I could tackle my self and OH is worse than useless when it comes to things of a practical nature!!

I'm surprised you haven't had a flood of response from the 'Status aerials are rubbish' camp and the 'get satellite' brigade .
I've rarely had a problem with Status aerials myself and they're relatively easy to install, but if you're not keen I'd have thought your dealer or service centre should be able to provide a fixed cost on fitting.
status aerials are rubbish, okay the new directional one is good but blinking expensive(£140 plus fitting), what you want is a blinking big pole that clamps onto your jockey wheel and a conventional aerial on the top. (circa £60) or keep an eye on maplins as I got the sat kit with freesat box for £80 a couple of years ago
I use an aerial from screwfix (item no 41700 at ~£15; stick on clamp pad from the local caravan shop ~£10 and three section clip together pole ~£20) can get really good signal at most sites.
Before we had to rely on our status 535 in france because some cabbage performed a software update on the laptop which we use for our usb satellite tv thus making it inoperable I'd have told you to steer clear of caravan roof mounted aerials due to them being lousy.
However we were able to pick up TV from Jersey while we were just outside St Malo France using ours and I can't fault it for that.
The jockey wheel mounting aerials on a post are fine performance wise but if you are setting up in the rain you can get quite wet while you find a signal with them. The caravan mounted one can be adjusted from inside the van ergo you don't get wet.
Get yourself a directional arial from Argos (bout £15) mount it on a pole on your jockey wheel and get yourself a digital signal finder for around a tenner you can't go wrong. You'll find it's more reliable than the Status.
thanks for your replies. Went to Lowdhams today and must say I was well impressed we asked the guy on the shop floor about the status 530/5 priced at £139 and basically he said well you could get that but you'd be just as well as get the maxview aerial that goes on the jockey wheel cos its £50 all in and you'll actually get more channels than with the posh status.
I was so impressed that he was actually reccomending a cheaper product!! I know it wont look as tidy as a status but at the end of the day for us a saving of nearly a £100 is well worth it
