Hello

We have a 1992 Coachman Wanderer that we have owned for 6 years.

I have only ever towed it with large 4x4s in the past a Range Rover and Ford Explorer

Due to fuel costs I now have a 2002 Citreon Xara Picasso .Im a bit concerned as I have never towed with anything this small before its the 1600 petrol model .
I think the weight of the car is around 1380kgs does anybody know the weight of the van .Im hoping the car should be ok to tow our van

have you looked for the weight of the van on the little plate usually found on the chassis or A frame?

I think you will find 1.6 petrol Picassos have a max tow weight of 900kg. If you look in the cars' handbook it will tell you. I would guess the caravan weighs more than that.

What berth is your van? you should be able to find your weights of your van on a plate on the hitch.

we had a 2.0HDI Picasso and the max for that was 1300kg.  Diesels pull more and better than a petrol.  Good luck in whatever you decide on. gary

Thanks for the replys our van is a five berth and Im sure the coachman is slightly over a tonne and Im not sure if im comfortable with that .

I drive a lot of miles for work and I have seen some nasty accidents and you always notice a smallish tow car in the carnage .
Im might think about getting a really cheap 4x4 just for caravanning I dont really want to sell my van !!!

Really cheap 4x4s usually come with really expensive repair bills as ive found out to my cost.Choose wisely or better still buy a heavier car thats had less of a rollocking as most 4x4s seem to have had.
