I live near Blackpool and really want to weigh my caravan. Does anyone know the location of one around me and what do you do, do you have to pay - is someone there to help. I'm new to all this.

We have to pay at our local weighbridge, think it was around £ 7.00.

Don't know for one in Blackpool cos I don't know the area. The going rate is about £7. You just drive on and there will be a licenced operator (I have a licence). You will get a printout with your weight. If you want just van obviously you will have to unhitch it.

HGV operators use them - you could ask in the trade.

Any local quarry or mill will have a weighbridge. If you find one nr you. Stop outside & ask if you can just drive on their bridge with car/caravan for check weigh. If ok, drive on, find out weight. Drive home, unhitch 'van, drive back & weigh car, gives you weight of caravan. If it is a public weighbridge & you want a ticket you will have to pay of course.

I have just had a quick look on Google Earth and might have spotted one on the Blackpool and Flyde Industrial Park on Ashworth Rd there is a waste station they should have a weighbridge if your not allowed to use it they should have the location of the nearest public weighbridge

Find a local scrap metal merchants, they will probably have a weighbridge and will allow you to use it, following the method Tentz has suggested

Hi helen8785, Phone your local council offices, they should be able to give you the local public weighbridges for your area,if any of them still open to the public, My local council want you to register with them before you use it, registration fee £90, nearest one to me now is 34miles away in bathgate charge £10 , the one 17miles from my home closed as thier local council would not spend £5000 to update to digital, so your best bet may be the local scrap yards or industrial estate,coal yards etc. you may find that they will charge you around £10 - £15. best of luck with your search.

I used one in Leyland, don't know if that's too far? There will be one nearer to you though, for sure. This was a landfill site, run by SITA - so it's worth asking your bin men where they empty the truck, and if they know if there's a public weighbridge there. I wasn't charged anything for using that one - the staff we fascinated to see something that wasn't a bin lorry, and then when I started to explain what a trailer tent was and that I was taking it abroad....

You asked how it works: basically there's a steel plate in the road (big enough for a truck)that you drive onto, and somewhere nearby there'll be either a window, or an office that you have to go into, where there will be some staff, hopefully! You'll need to ask about using it etc. Assuming you want to weigh the caravan on its own , you'll need to explain this to the staff, then drive on, un-hitch and move the car off the plate. The weight will come up on a display in the office, where they can print it off on a ticket for you, and take payment.

Don't normally look in this section but Google found this when I was looking for weighbridges in Lancashire.

We want to weigh our van and have done some detective work, is this SITA at Ridley Lane, Croston?

If so, that would be quite convenient for us, as it is close to where we live.

If you have a 'tip' fairly close to you try giving them a ring - we weighed ours at the local tip & they told us the best time to bring it in so we wouldn't have to wait or queue. We paid £7 but well worth it.

I realise this is way after the time of the original post but think this info might be useful.

I live in Blackpool and have been looking for a weighbridge in the local area. The Council doesn't have a public weighbridge but having spoken to them today they gave me the number for a 'tip' which does, this is on Ashworth Road and their number is 01253 696725. Just called them and they say pop in anytime and if you want a ticket it will cost £5.26.
