Hi guys, not been on for ages but some of you may recall that we lost our sliding roof window whilst on the way home from a weekend break last year.. Finally got the go ahead to take it to Michael Jordans and duly dropped and left it with them last week in January..... They called last week ( 4 months later ) and said it was done

Well, we collected it on Thursday, found a couple of dings which were not there before, had a quick check round and signed the release paperwork. Once home we re-packed the caravan as we literally emptied the van as it basically required a complete new roof !! As I was packing things away, I opened the wardrobe to discover that the flu from the fire wasnt connected to the roof outlet, it was just hanging there... I mean if we hadnt of looked in the wardrobe and gone away, god knows what would have happend if we'd put the fire on ... Anyways, decided to have a closer inspection of the van and the workmanship isnt very good at all... There is excess sealant all over the van, its had all new awning rails fitted and they havent fitted them exactley flush, theres a dip in the roof edge just above the door so water will drip directley over the door. It just doesnt look like enough care has been taken in repairing it at all !! I phoned them on Friday and told them I wasnt happy but the chap who dealt with the release wasnt around till today ( Monday ). Give him credit he was on the phone to me 09.00 and I've now told him he needs to come to me to refit the flu outlet as I'm not taking more time off work to bring it back and at the end of this season he can have the van back as I'm rejecting the repair work... I'm so outraged that they've released the van in such poor condition, but you know whats its like, we're all in a rush and you cant literally check every inch of the caravan. He's coming Wednesday to fix the flu pipe and to see what they can do with the rest of the van. He's gonna get a good gobfull from me if it isnt done how I want it.....

I'm sorry to hear of your experience, my views on the overall professionalism and attention to detail within the caravan industry are similar, far from what you now get with other expensive purchases...

No surprises -rarely do dealers let a pessimistic view be not warranted. I have had several new vans and once they are out of the showroom they dont want to know.Only the first three letters of the word warranty are relevant.

OK So the chap is coming tomorrow ( Weds ) to connect the fire flu.... Can someone tell me if I should receive a Gas Safe Certificate or not ? Basically, should a qualified fitter be doing it ?

Told the guy that after this season they can have it back to be repaired again otherwise I'll inform the insurance company of their incompetence

Will update you tomorrow

Guy turned up from Michael Jordans and connected the flu today... Also went round the van and marked up all the snags, think he was surprised at how many there were and has agreed to take the van back after this season has finished  Looks like another new roof and rails...Also asked about a bit of compensation and suggested as he had to get the sprayer out to do dome work, said he may be able to sort the other dents out ( only about 3 small ones, but we know they're there but you'd have to look hard to find them ) and also asked about throwing in a free service before they return the van back... He said its possible but will ask the guv'nor when he gets back... Fingers crossed eh ??
