I am being thick but who would leave handbags lap tops and other stuff in there awning, if we have anything like that its always locked in the caravan, with alarm on,

If you are staying in the area take extra care just incase they strike again!

was the first thing i thought of rune.
work colleague of mine "left" a cheap basic laptop in his car passenger seat "for a few minutes".
got a far better far more expensive machine from his insurers and his glass sorted in his car.
utter joke and spoils insurance for genuine people

said it before lock it or lose it,applies to what ever you have.now lock by chain the water barrel ( £45) and waste container (£ 45 ) steps ( £35) toilet container (£ 100) water pump ( £ 45 ) ect. can afford new but do not want to be searching for replacements on a Sunday morning for a few seconds to make the secure.three bikes are heavily locked together by a motorbike chain lock.they need to carry three if they want them.i would be a bit sick about the awning being cut though.one warden told me to watch our water barrel as the flea market was on and it pays for the stall when sold ?????????.i have designed a lock for the water pump if you look on papa pips site.not hard to make.

Wow. I would never think to lock up my aqua roll or waste hog. I have never heard of any walking (yet). Touches wood fast.

Such a sad world we live in   we seam to be loosing so much respect for each other and other peoples property. Its probably not helped by everybody thinking they need to have everything now and not wait and save, the celebrity culture isn't helping much either.

On a practical note we have used permanent makers and paint to label our aqua roll etc and step, hopefully that will discourage theft. But equally bad is false insurance claims as we all pay for that with increased premiums,  that too is theft.

Neither would I.  I have never had anything taken from a site while on holiday.  The only thing we have lost (as some will remember) is our previous van that went from 'secure' storeage.

Although we haave carried cable locks (for cycles which we haven't got ) for a while now, we haven't used them up until our May Bank Holiday this year. One look at the site and the water and waste hogs were locked onto the van.

Like others, anything of value is hidden in the van and the alarm left on, or it is hidden in the boot of the car.

Overall, we really do not go camping with anything of real value. If anything was stolen it would be more of a nuisance that anything else.

In the past, people did not steal from tents or caravans because there was nothing of value there to start with.
Both caravanning and camping were a very basic types of holiday and anyone in the nick for stealing from them would have been ridiculed by the other inmates.

But times change and caravanning and camping can be almost as luxurious as home but only protected by a piece of lightweight material, easy pickings for those who need to feed a £100 a day drug habit.

Whilst I have some sympathy for those who have to learn that hard way, I cannot but think, hell mend them.

i always lock my aqua rolls and waste hog up, after reading about ones going missing a few years back, i also sometimes lock the sat dish up to, and i carry a large chain if i ever take a genny with me.

now as to the theives getting all that stuff out of the site would of been hard as you need a keycard to get in and out of the site, and i cant see people walking off a site with all that stuff to the motorway without someone seeing.

as for leaving things like tv,s, laptop and hand bag in awning do people not relise your awning is only a piece of fabric, i know it our space but theives dont care.

Though in fairness you would have a hand bag in a tent that you slept in, and may be they were asleep in the awning at the time?

Personally I wouldn’t take a laptop with me but may be they were using it as TV DVD player combined?

I would never leave a standard 'desireable' (laptop, TV, phone, handbag/credit cards/ money, CD player, ipod etc) unattended in an awning.  I feel it is putting temptation in view of people.
