hi all i have a problem with my right indicator on mine caravan which isnt working i have checked the bulbs changed both sockets on the car (kia carens 05) en the caravan (abi ace 1994) checked the electrics with a lighting board and thats working fine the left indicator works fine some one told me that caravan pre 1998 and cars past 1998 not always compatible are i hope some one here can help me
On pre 1998 caravans pin 2 was a simple 16 amp switched feed that would charge the caravan battery if the engine is running. On post 1998 caravans pin 2 is not used. A relay connects the caravan battery to the live feed from pin 4, and disconnects the caravan lights.
The changes for post and pre 1998 should not affect the indicators. first thing is to check that the bulb is seated correctly and has no corrosion to affect the earthing (a common problem). next is to check the wiring, on some later caravan the wiring entered the van and under the front seat is a terminal block(it may not be on yours??) if it's there check screws for tightness (do not over tighten). If all is OK so far then inspect the wiring in the light carefully, it may look good but contact may not be being made (all terminals).
Hope this helps. if all else fails then an auto electrician should be able to trace the fault, if a lighting board works OK then the fault is in the caravan
The problem will be with black 12n side. If you have checked car & both indicators work ok on another trailer you need to start with black 12n plug on caravan. Take it apart & check connections, particularly the earth. Then work backwards thru wiring.
hi cloggie99, i am probably talking rubbish here, but this spring when moving the caravan for the first time this year i had problems with the caravan right indicator not working. the problem was, i had a new battery fitted for the start of last winter. the electrics for the van were upset.solution remove fuse for caravan lights & put back in, that resets it. the same thing can happen with a flat battery.
hope you get it sorted ok
all the best andy
