Went away last weekend the fridge was not getting very cold at all would this be down to the really hot weather we had or would it be another problem someone on site said it is the thermostat what do you think ?

Was it on gas or mains elctric. Were all the switches in the right place. It does take a while to cool. I normally cool ours down at home by switching on the day before. Were any indicator lights on or not when they should be etc. What make and model of fridge was it.

If it works on gas but not mains electric, its probably the 240v element gone.

Its was on mains electric all lights and switches on as normal not sure of the make

Caravan fridges are gas fridges that are adapted to take electric.

They are far more efficient (get cold quicker & stay cold) on gas rather electric, especially if the outside temp is high.  If you fridge is fine on electric on a normal weekend then I suspect this is OK.

At temps above low 20's (like last w/e in the south east, not sure where you were staying) I would switch to gas.

Inside the fridge there is a gas burner, a 240v element and a 12v element. All it does is apply heat to the refrigeration unit. If it works on gas OK but not on electric its probably the element gone. They are correct in saying that in very hot weather they don't work very well.

If it doesn't work on gas when the gas is lit its bad news.

I know it may sound silly but was your van 100% level,

I have had the same problem once when having the van plugged into mains while we were packing to go away, I spent hours trying to get it working on Mains and Gas and just couldnt get it coole The problem was because I hadnt leveled it properly, I was just packing it up to take away so didnt really both.

I believe some fridges have low tollerances to being off the level.

With most not running with a compressor, they rely on the system being completly level to allow the heater and cooling process to work effectivly.

Or there could be a problem with the fridge.
