I've read all the advice on the dreaded black bits and have hopefully cleared them all. I've decided to swap over to Top and Tail because taking one bottle is tempting and it frees up space and weight for more beer
I bought big bottles of Harringtons own pink and blue at the end of last season and have most of them left. I'm not a great fan of waste and was wondering if I can use them for anything else. I don't see any reason why I can't use the pink diluted as a household toilet sanitiser but what about the blue? Any brainwaves?
I was under the impression that it was the thetford pink that caused the problem not any other brand ?
Last night my son was saying he almost threw up when emptying the waste water container, because of the smell, although he was okay with the toilet cassette , and he asked me if I could put blue chem in the waste container as well?
Any reasons not to do this ?

isnt the black bits just a mould caused by damp? as far as I knew it was the same stuff you get in yr bathroom, not sure whey the "pink" would make it worse.
I dont use anything in my flush, just water, (blue in the bottom) and all been fine to press.
a drop of blue in the wastewater wouldn't be a bad thing,
I also dont take a big bottle, I got one of the smallest bottle I could find (it might have even been a trial size) and this does enough blue for a fortnights trip on a THS, the big bottle stays at home
I've never had any black bits and I use the brand with the diamond on it, can't remember what it is (probably called Diamond ). Don't think we ever used Thetford.
I've got a compartment underneath the toilet for the small bottles of blue/green and pink and they're enough for 3 or 4 fills, so I don't have to carry big bottles anyway.

Fill your wastemaster with hot or warm water and half a bottle of cheap bleach leave for 30 minutes and empty .
The inside will be spotless and smell free
Yeah, black bits are mould. It is unsightly and can in time block pipes and stop mechanisms from working properly. The flush additive has various purposes, such as helping to clean the pan, fragrance, and killing the mould.
The move now seems to be towards using the same chemical in flush and toilet cassette, because it's just easier. I've tried Top & Tail, but better by far is One Chem.

The waste container isnt smelly after its been emptied and rinsed out, and I have check that it doesnt smell before using it. its the smell of the dishwater thats being emptied out that he doesnt like.
Hiya , I was under the impression that toiket waste(and blue/green/pink) chemical could only be put into the elsan point as chemicals cannot be discharged into domestic water drains without severe penalties being dished out if caught. When we clean down after every trip all we do is wash the waste master and water hog with clean running water , turn upside down to drain and wipe it thoroughly. We use elsan double rinse (OH saw it on offer in Towsure)and got 2lt of each for £7.50. We have 2 small bottles that store under the cassette so we only carry a small amount. Oh and Kay says she has never seen any black bits !!!maybe cheap chemicals are the answer.
