I bought one few weeks back too, was fed up of the galeforce winds we seemed to have everytime we camped.
We have had a few 'vans over the years tho, so know I will enjoy it.
Won't get rid of all the tents though, I like to have a change every so often .
Have fun enjoying your new van .

got my van 3 seasona ago. got bullied into it to be honest. dont tell the oh but i love my van now and dont regret getting one lol. once you have used it a couple of times you will have set up in 20 mins and have a cuppa or glass of wine in your hand relaxing wondering why the person on the pitch over from you has still got a tent

Congratulations on your purchase! Am sure you will love it!!

We picked up our first ever caravan in April, after several seasons tent camping and then folding camper camping we decided we really were ready for the change. Used to love going camping in the tent/camper but it just seemed to take longer and longer to set up as we took more and more things to make it comfortable. It seemed every time we went away it we were setting up/packing up in the rain and it became a chore.

We've had 2 short trips away in the van so far and i have to say the difference for us is huge, more comfort, more convenience and more time sat in my deck chair because we have set up in a fraction of the time-oh and also more sun-we've had more sun in 2 trips in the van than the last few yrs or so camping!

Enjpy!

We bought ours nearly 3 years ago, felt the same as you! We too got fed up with the rainy holidays and the time it took to pitch and pack away! We had been looking at caravans for a couple of years but unable to afford one. When we did take the plunge we used all our savings and i thought "oh my god, what have we done! Would we like it? Boy did we like it , it was fantastic! Best money we ever spent. Hope you feel the same!

hope you enjoy the van, there is nothing like being snuggled in your bed hearing the rain on the roof plus no more 3am walkies after too much wine/ale

having said that for me anyway the tent still has its uses, like when i need somewhere to doss overnight as you can drive at 70mph with a tent in the boot, you cant with 18 feet of caravan on the back.

for me once i can afford it I can see me going down the small motorhome route, something that is big enough to doss in, make a brew in and have a loo and sink and be small enough to use as a daily driver

Congrats we were tenters but as most peeps will say it was the rain that got us to us in the end that and one awful windy bank holiday our tent blew down and snapped, we fixed it as best we could and made do but the caravan parked next to us with their heating and tv on was what pushed us over the edge, so we chucked the tent in the bin, and bought a van, wouldn't go back for anything, having heat and being all cosy and being able to go to bed in pj's instead of ten layers of clothing and having a loo well that's priceless.
And because we are a nosey lot here, what did you buy ;)
enjoy

We followed the same path as rachntex.   We started off with a small tent and just basics, but we soon added a larger tent and lots of stuff.  It took for ever to pack/unpack in the rain!  I watched a video on folding campers and thought wow that is so quick and you get proper beds.  We kept it for two summers, it was quicker at first but we too added more stuff and setting up the cupboards and other stuff in the awning took forever.  We also found that we couldn't go away with out the awning, which meant we got fed up doing it for weekends.

On our last folding camper trip we visited a caravan show room and for the first time we looked at them and thought these are great.  Before we used to think they were cramped and not enough room.  However with the new layouts they are great.  When we got home listed the camper on ebay sold within a day.  We then ordered a brand new peggy.  It has been the best move we have every made.  We have been away for 4 trips since getting it in March.  Something we would never have done with the camper or tent.  Got 5 more trips planned for this year so far, more to be added.   We bought a porche awning (really quick to put up) and a full awning for longer trips.

It is worth going to the carvan shows as you can pick some cheap stuff or just get ideas.  I hope you have a great time.

We were previous tenters as well, I think a lot of caravanners were to start with.

Hope you enjoy your new purchase, we love ours.

Packing away a tent in the rain is what made us switch to a caravan.

Don't regret it for a minute!

We are ex-tent too.  It was the best thing we ever did, money well spent.  I agree with everything everyone said and would never go back to a tent.  We bought ours in April and have had three trips since and it's got better and better.  We also bought a quickie awning for the dogs and that's great too, goes up in a trice!  Hope you enjoy ours like we are enjoying ours!

We've been away for the BH weekend in our tent and just decided, it's time to change to a caravan. You guys know the reasons - cold, wet, ages to pitch etc etc. I'm flippin pooped from packing all the kit away, it's gotten too tedious now.

This weekend we were so jealous of the guys in their caravans whilst we were freezing our butts off!

I never thought we'd get a caravan, but now we've both decided, I'm VERY excited!

Now the research begins...

Judders, how exciting! I can still remember when we decided it was time to change from tent to caravan. The research started as soon as we got back from France (when we made the decision) - we already knew what van we wanted we just had to find one! After about a week of searching i found one. I showed it to hubby that evening, rang the dealer next day, who said we should come sooner than the weekend! Hubby immediiately got the afternoon off work, we drove the hour or so to the dealer and bought it! It all happened so quickly! When we were sat in the van talking to the saleman a fella came in to say he wanted the van too! Thank goodness we had got there when we did or we would've been too late! And we still love our Addy!

So good luck with, and enjoy, your research, i hope you find what you're looking for!

Hi Debs,

We're picking up our first ever caravan this Friday, and can't wait :)  We've had a tent for the past three years, but decided to go down the caravan route for the same reasons most of the other replies have given.

We're staying at a local campsite for one night this Friday as a trial run, then off to a site in the New Forest on Monday for six nights.

I hope I like the caravan because we've blown all our savings on it and kitting it out

Nicky
