Some help please from those in the know on here (as ever)..

Have decided now to make the move from tourer (5 berth Elddis 2005 model) to a static van on our favourite site.

We don’t know when to sell our tourer though to get the best price, although I have heard that good quality family tourers are like hens teeth and in demand.

Now,

End of this season, or

Start of next season

Any suggestions?

Oh and another thing, where to get a good idea of valuations from?  Ebay?

If I was looking to buy I would buy about now if I was buying 2nd hand.  If I was buying new I would order about Oct for delivery around April.

We put our van on the market a couple of weeks ago thinking it would be a good time, Put it on as an ebay auction at first with a very realistic reserve but it did not even make what we had been offered by a couple of dealers as a straight cash buy, not a part exchange.

Now have it as a clasified on ebay, Caravan Finder and Autotrader and still not a sniff of a buyer. This a supposedly desirable van with a popular family layout plus a mover awning and  accessories thrown in, I am baffled to be honest. Another couple of weeks and I am going to take the dealers money. Seems like nobody is spending on anything at the moment

I think it really is just a case of good timing with these things. Sometimes you're lucky enough that someone is looking for what you are selling at the time you advertise and sometimes you are not. I'd put it on now but try not to get too despondent if it doesn't go immediately.

Personally, I'm a big fan of Gumtree for selling and buying as it is local and free. We sold our last caravan on Gumtree within 48hours.

I can remember a few months ago, just before the start of the season seeing a few posts from people that were gutted when they had gone to look at tourer only to find or be told before they left that it had been sold.

Seems to me that start of the season may be best?

I think it will put it on now but more to test the water than in expectation, but I would expect to sell before season next year.  Dont think i would lose too much on it if I wait until then, a matter of a 7 months only.

As a matter of interest - was there a big difference in the price offered by dealer and price you were looking for in private sale (no need to mention figures).
