Now we've bought the car, the van, the new tow ball and the mirros and after I complete CC towing course on Saturday we're off for two weeks in the van. SO excited!

I thought it would be the towing I'd be worried about but I'm more worried about getting the awning up - much bigger and heavier than the campervans had and so many 'bits'!

So if you see a couple at Bromyards a week from today struggling to get an awning up and shaking thier heads in dispair give us some time to do it ourselves but feel free to offer assistance before voices become raised wont you!!

Then we're off to Dartmoor for a whole week - dont care if the sun dont shine I'm dreaming of a G&T, good book and some soothing music.  Bliss.

Practice the awning at home just so you know which end goes into the awning rail first and how the poles fit together. Makes it so much easier. After your course you will wonder why you worried about towing and reversing.

Then...just take your time. Whatever you do take your time its just easier that way...the world...and everyone behind you,... can wait

Enjoy

Phil

You will have a fantastic time, and as Phil said, take your time, keep the speed down.  We still struggle with our awning and we have put it up about 10 times!

Congrats! We don't find the awning too much of a problem as everyone has said just take your time, lay the poles out where you think they should go before attempting to put it up.

Have a wonderful time

Andi

Thanks to all for your replies - I'm sure we'll get there (eventually!)  I have been practicing all week to keep my speed down!  Have now finished work for two weeks - but as I'll need my wits about me tomorrow I'll save the G&T for Sunday nite!

Cant wait to stretch out with so much space compared to a campervan, my goodness even the dogs will have room to move about and looking forward to seeing how our 18 year old cat takes to the camping life (too old to leave at home now but she has a shiny new harness and leader to keep her safe!)

Sorry, but disagree with cwd56768 - generally I find a large G&T makes the awning go up in twice the speed (either that or i just care a little less!!!!)

How do you get 5 kids and two parents in one small caravan...give up and buy a bigger one!!!
