Hi Willhay555 , i tow with a Rover 75 tourer and a Swift Challanger Mtplm 1470kg , i must admit i had my doubts weather it would tow ok on hills ( although it has a tow limit of 1600kg ) , but haven't had any problems so far , i've done a few mods that have increased it's power and torque and it pulls really well . I had to do a hill start in Minehead caravan club site after stopping to book in and it managed surprising well ( it's pretty steep there, just inside the entrance ) .
The thing that might have a bearing on your problem is , Rover clutches are known to go at about 100,000 miles there abouts . Mine had a new clutch fitted just before i bought it . Also if you found yourself slipping the clutch to pull away up the hill a good few times , doing that would have burnt the clutch out . I think you've had some good advice on how to cope with hills , the only thing i can say where driving a rover is concerned is ( when i've been driving mine that is ) to get your foot off the clutch as soon as you get moving rather than slipping the clutch too much .
