I have someone who wants to travel from England toN.ireland to purchase my caravan. They want to come over next Sunday purchase and go home on Monday. What is the best option for me to get my money on the Sunday other than cash.
I would prefer the money in my account for Sunday but can understand them not wanting to pay the full amount prior to even viewing the van. Any one had any experience of doing a deal like this.
Is a bankers draft a secure way to take payment?
Help

Difficult one this. Weekdays, best way is bank transfer his bank to your bank & both go to your bank to check all is in order. Bankers' drafts can of course be forged & again you & buyer need to take it to your bank together.
For selling on a Sunday, the best form of finance is cash. Unsual for a buyer to come from England to NI, its usually 'tother way round.

I use telephone banking and if they did they could ring and transfer it while you sat at the side of them. You could always ask if they do this???

I must be selling it too cheap if they are wanting to come over here for it! I'm throwing everything in on the deal too so they are getting at a good price.

If both you & he bank online it should(depending on amount)be possible for him to do a transfer using your computer, it ain't instant & any transfer such as this is reversable by bank if any problem arises, so not really an option imho. Unless your buyer can delay until office hours Monday the only answer is a cash transaction.

My bank ( first direct) is instant, I pay my ironing lady whilst she is unloading my ironing from her car!!!
She drops it off and tells me how much it is so I ring them whilst she's unloading, they ask if it is to go instant or the day after, my lady says it's always in the same day when she checks her statement.
You could always ask them which bank they use, it could be certain banks that would take it instant.

Thanks for the advice, I think i'm going to go for cash or they come on a week day and we both go to the bank together. Not taking any chances.

If you go for cash you can buy a note checker for very little. They are on ebay and you must presumably be able to buy them locally. They can be UV based or marker pen. Less than a tenner!

Go for cash as even a banker's draft can be forged. Very suspicious that someone from England wants to buy in NI. That alone would start to ring alarm bells.

cash is the best in your situation
you can do "faster payments" with some banks, but there are limits to this. Some banks have a £1000 limit and anything over is not instant and same as writing a cheque. if using this method you will need to check the limtis with both sending and your receiving bank.
a bankers draft is no differnt to a hand written cheque it is basically being drawn from the Banks own account rather than the customers own account (i.e. the customer has given his money to the bank to put in the banks own account)
bankers draft are no more secure than you or me writing a cheque out contrary to popular belief. and yes these are a lot of fraudulant copies out there.

The customer has given the money to the bank and they will not terurn it if they have issued a bank draft - it is a secure means of receiving payment if it is genuine. Some are not!

We pick our new van up tomorow and are paying by debit card, i payed for my car by debit card and the money came out straight away. not sure it goes into the sellers account straight away, i would think it did.

I'd go for cash. If the transaction is done by cheque or Debit Card, I would wish to see the amount cleared on my account before releasing the goods. I wished I could remember how PayPal worked - it might just be a little more secure, but you would both need to have an account, I think. No doubt a hardened ebayer would know the answer.

You can still do chargeback on a debit card so still not as safe as cash.
