You need one about 20-25m long like this

they are mostly aboout £25.

it has a round blue plug each end, one end goes into site mains , the other into the side of caravan .

No idea if its the same lead as the generator uses. check with site first if genny is allowed, not all sites allow them because of the noise, or have set times they can be used in.lead at towsure £22.99

Be very carfull of using a generator as they can do serious damage to caravans electrics, most caravaners use them only for charging the battery (disconnected from the van)

when we go to scotland thers no mains elecetic and most vans have genoraters on for a few hours a day. as we have allways been in a tent before we have never used the genorater since we got it but we are going to have to at least chareg the caravan battery as we are there 2 weeks. so whats the best way to do it. As its  not a normal camp site we stay on but a playing flead. we use the footballers showers and loos.  SO its like camping in an  open feld so any power sugetsions welcom for our first trip

It sounds to me as if you are going onto a THS site in which case it is campsite etiquette to ask the permission of those pithched closest to you if it is okay to run your generator for a couple of hours, usually early afternoon.

We have just returned from a THS site and that was the case there.

Cheap generators(ie Lidl specials)can voltage surge when when an appliance is switched off. If you want to plug your ehu into a genny you need a better quailty one like a Honda.

In summary, hook-up lead question answered. If running on battery power only it is a good idea to have two batteries. One can then be on charge whilst other is in use. That way generator not in direct contact with caravan electrics, just charging battery off-line.

Some Tempory Holiday Sites offer a battery charging service to avoid the need for the generator all together.

If using a more expensive generator, such as the Honda, you may be ok connecting to the caravan, some only have "normal" 3-pin plug connections but you can get a converter for a few pounds, which is what most people use at home to connect their van to a normal house 13 amp socket.

If using a generator, check site rules on use, only use for a few hours during the day and ask neighbours if they have any issues.

I have an old Honda EX650 that I bought in 1989 and it runs as good as the day it was bought, but they are not cheap, like the Aldi 2 strokes,it is very quiet but I have built a baffle box that makes it allmost impossible to hear,I have had comments from Wardens and other campers that they did not know it was there, but I only use it when I have to.Also if possible get a hedge pitch where no one is the other side.placing it facing the hedge or in it will also help with which way the wind may be blowing to stop the fumes blowing towards fellow campers.I also have as mentioned the house connection lead that has the normal house three pin plug on one end and the blue Ehu connection on the other end, another point is,it will need some sort of protection if it starts to rain,as will the leads from the genni to your van.

The lead shown above is ok for hooking up to EHU. Some generators have the same plug usually the bigger ones. Many have a standard household plug. You will need an adaptor to connect an EHU lead into it. They are available from any dealer and normally used for people to connect their EHU up at home into a standard 3 pin socket.

You should always fully unwind an EHU lead before connecting it up as a coil of wire with electricity running through it is technically an electric fire.

We go to the same place every summer and know 90% of the peopel there as its a meet for our hobby.   we are all good about noies and stuff and dont think theres anyone who runs the genaratour to early or late. Up till now we have allways had a frame tent so tin tentings a new world to us. I do see alot who put it one when  doing there hair and stuff as you can here the noise of the genoratour changes. So I am glad i was woarned not to do that.  I will get another battery  for charging to take with us that sound a good plan. The genoraters been unused in teh shed for 3 years and it kicked up and started first time. But hubbys got it booked in for a once over as we will need it to be reliable when away.   One things are explaine dthey dont seam as scarey but I recone i will bombarding you all for the next few weeks and i am wrighting it all down in a note book just incase lol
