who can suggest a route for us as we are going to Whitby at the end of August. We will be hoping to have an overnight stop along the way at services if poss and since we are taking the grand children ages 3 and 4 we may need several loo stops as well (just somewhere to park up and use the onboard loo)
Unless you have autoroute, I'd suggest a look on Multimap or similar to work a route out. My autoroute gives a quickest route of 328 miles & a shortest route of 301 miles, so as I'm not familiar with the route it's not a trip I can advise on.

Head for the A1 turn off A1 onto the A64 to York. Keep on A64 ring road around York. At the A 1079 exit to Hull leave the A64 and head for Hull. Just abput 1 mile off the A 64 ring road there are toilets on the left in a layby in a cafe. You can use the loos without using the cafe. Easy to pull the caravan in and park. We use it everytime we venture out of the East Riding. Anyway, back towards York and onto the A64 ring road and head North to Malton. Cafe up this road with large car park for easy caravan parking. Toilets and cuppa. Just North of Malton turn onto the A169 which takes you to Pickering. Then when you hit Pickering straight on at the roundabout on the A169 to Whitby.......No weeing on the roadside in Yorkshire if you don't mind. Enjoy your journey over the fabulous North Yorkshire Moors...well over anywhere in Yorkshire.

No Gary our Loos are closed for refurbishment at the moment so you need to go before you set off to Brid!!!!
Flask Inn on the Scarborough to Whitby Road and you travel through the Dalby Forest first and then the North Yorks Moors....shame......

I was up in Whitby a few weeks ago. I was heading for the A64 when I heard the travel news, which made it pretty clear that the A64 was a great place to park but not so good if you wanted to actually move so I needed a plan B.
In the end I carried on up the A1 to Thirsk and then cut across to Whitby (A16, A19, A172, A171 I think). It's a little bit longer but I found it to be a much better journey. There's too much stop/start traffic on the A64 (unless you are well off peak times) so from now on I'm sticking to my improvised "Plan B" route.
Think you mean the A168 not A16 from Dishforth to Thirsk. Anyway your route skirts along the Hambleton Hills and then onto the North Yorkshire Moors crossing over the Coast to Coast Route near Osmotherley. Another joyous Yorkshire route to enjoy.

You're quite right - I meant to type A16 but I think that maybe the key on my keyboard doesn't work
