You had not previously had the cup in the microwave to warm up a drink, had you?

Melamine has a tendancy to crack if microwaved.

Well having boiling water down you would make you shout!!!!

Melamine absorbs heat so if you often use cups in a microwave or pour boiling water into them they can soften and crack. Boiled water should be left a short while before pouring into the cup to coll a little or make the tea in a tea pot first rather than directly into the cup.

Just an afterthought have you reported it to trading standards as there may be a faulty batch out there? Do you know what make they were?

Steradent.....? Pop your teeth in the cup overnight and both are clean in the morning. Great time saving tip but I don't know if I want to call into a local shop and ask for steradent at the moment!!!!!
