The starting point should be that all (UK) caravans used to have fixed carpets which were a nightmare. The move to removable ones was a good step forward. We leave ours in place and they are only removed when we clean the floor. What we do have is a few extra mats to save the original carpets getting worn or dirty. A lot of Continental vans don't come with carpets so no reason why you should use them, however don't dispose of them as when you come to sell or trade in your van the new owners might not feel the same way as you!

We don't use ours, just removable cotton rugs that are lighter and can be washed easily. But that’s down to not having wanted carpets and they came with the caravan and the fact we try to reduce weight!

When we bought our van new we were paranoid about the drop in carpets and had some plastic runners laid over it.  We then questioned ourselves why had we bothered paying £13k for the thing if we were not going to enjoy it ourselves.

Carpet feels nicer under foot than lino and when we come to change it, a new set of mats will set me back under £100.

We have taken the middle and rear sections of the carpets up. I find it easier to keep the floor clean plus we take our shoes off at the door.

we take our shoes off in the awning and put slippers or flip flops on when in the van, why would anyone walk into there van in muddy shoes etc ???? you would'nt do it at home so why do it in your van?????.

Ours stay in the caravan, don't like the idea of a bare floor at home so why in the van? We have a bath mat, but that is on top of the carpet. I brush the carpets regularly as OH is a prime bringer-in of grass even when he takes his shoes off at the door, and also hoover them.
