Hi there- on the subject of the new lightweight Calor bottles. Be aware if you have one that not all Calor dealers are authorised to stock these. At work we stock Campingaz and Calor, but my boss has just had to send away a form to authorise us to stock the Calor Gas Light bottles as well.

This may mean that if your gas runs out wherever you are with the caravan or tent, you may not be able to change your bottle if the local dealer isn't yet authorised to stock the Calor Light range.

I guess many small dealers are in the same boat as us, just getting into the new system. Please bear with them and more people will get authorised in due course.

The other thing about bottled gas is, when your bottle runs out, replace it as soon as you can, don't wait till the day you go away the next time because at busy times you may be disappointed. A problem small firms like my employer has, is that at busy periods sole traders like us can be "rolled over" in favour of supplying the big DIY chains and petrol stations who stock bottled gas. Last week only one of our 3 deliveries came through.

Cheers folks!

How will it start panic buying? Just asking people to be aware that as yet not everyone's able to carry the new bottles, which is a pain in the butt as we'd like to stock them.

Panic buying is when people come in at 5:25 on a Friday night on their way to a camping trip because they were too slack to replace an empty calor bottle sooner, and then get snotty with us because everyone else did the panic buying on Friday as well, and our little gas cage is empty.

Tip: go on a Monday or Tuesday to your calor stockist: they will have ordered on Friday the week before and the new supplies should be in. If you miss a bottle then, try Friday morning! Avoid panic buying! Go on your holiday with a happy head on!

We've never had a problem exchanging our Calorlite bottle at home or when we're away. Best thing is to print off  a list of Calor stockist from their website, for the area that we are visiting.

Me too Michael.  However, we have already had ours for 12 months and it still seems to be going strong.  I put it down to too many BBQ's or meals out!!

Going to be changing one of my 6Kgs today for a Calorlite, we have a Calor store here and they have told me they will do a straight swop for (and only for) 6Kg and 7Kg standard cylinders.

yes they have changed the rules on swopping bottles and sizes but like for like is ok.the new calorlite weighs full 10 kgs or 22 lbs with my trusty scale.strange they are so light they feel empty when carried.

» I would like to exchange my cylinder for a different size, can we do this at any Calor outlet?

Yes, call your local Calor Gas Direct outlet on 0800 662 663 and they will be able to advise.
