Hello all. My first post in the forums here although i've done a lot in the site reviews bit so please don't bash me if i've put this post in the wrong place.

As per my profile page, we tour with me (Dad), the wife, 2 kids aged 10 & 8 and our soppy dalmation X dog.

My question to anyone out there who might know is this: We want a newer van, but which make and model as there seems to be so many but nothing bang on.

My new van needs to fit in the following list.
It needs to be a 4 berth.
It needs to be a twin axle.
We want to have no end wash room and would like the corner fixed bed at the end of the van.
The front seats to be at least 6 foot length as my eldest son is already a giant and is only 10 years of age.
To have as much wardrobe space as possible.
If possible, to have the shower and toilet apart to avoid any more broken trays.

The sort of thing like this: http://www.caravanfinder.co.uk/caravan/Trade/079FEFC6695A61BA8025774400505714/

Just wanted to know if there were any other makes and models that have long beds at front but a side fixed bed at the read. I know the door is the main reason why most twin axles have reduced length beds at front.

Thanks for reading and all the best.
Kind Regards
Andy.

I have 2 boys aged 13/17 both are close on 6ft and we have a Louisiana 789  neither of them complain and are happy when we say that we are going away. Although toilet and shower are in the same space they are seperate, another one is the Heritage 640.

Regards

Thanks to Boycieb for your views. I have looked at Bailey before as i currently own a van by them and liked it so much so, that we are on course to do 70 nights away this year.

Without being to in-depth to your own affairs, has your 6' lads got much more room to grow?

I ask as my eldest is 5 foot and his only 10 in August so I'm just looking for a van that would see us right as long as possible.

P.S - is the 789 a dealer special or something as i cannot find this model number anywhere.

Kind Regards
Andy O'Keeffe

I know how important it is to get the layout right.  Just a thought as regards your boys, in a couple of years they may well be wanting a tent of their own outside. Also, if you made the front seats into the double bed instead of leaving it as two singles, they would have loads of room in a sleeping bag each. They probably dont sleep with their legs straight, if you know what I mean. In fact, this would probably be better as those singles are narrow.  So you might get away with seats a little less than 6ft?  My OH is 6ft2 and has no problems with the front double bed.

What about a Lunar Lexon TL?  Two lounges, both with 6 ft singles, or make one end up as a double bed and leave it up, and pretend its fixed!  But If its wet, you can put away the beds and then your growing lads can have their own space.  One side Bathroom, but with a dedicated shower cubicle.

Thanks for the sleeping bed idea. We have been away this weekend and i suggested it to my lads and one is up for it and the other says he will give it a go but i know he loves his comforts so we will see, but the idea is great.

As for the Lunar Lexon TL, i have considered and tried weighing up the pros and cons of both fixed bed or not. That is the most difficult part of this whole process.

We currently have a van where we leave the rear part of the van set up as a bed and do drop it in rough or poor weather, just like the Lunar Lexon TL.

At the moment, with our small van, the loss of space is noticeable but i hope by having a longer chassis on a twin axle, it would be come better.

Once again, thanks for all those that have replied.

Best Regards
Andy.

If you go and buy Practical caravan magazine, or the Caravan magazine from the newsagents, it shows all the layouts and costs from all the manufacturers, you can take a look at that and find the one that suits exactly.  It's included in the magazine every month.
