We do that in France, we have a light plastic oval table €10, and 4 stacking chairs €4 euros each.  We then don't take the van table, in the new van the 'plastics' weight about the same as the van table.

We found some really lightweight aluminium folding chairs the other day - only thing was they came complete with their own heavyweight aluminium and glass non-folding table

We have a large roll up table and 4 director chairs that we bought from Aztec Leisure near Perranporth. The chairs are steel but they are quite lightweight and the table is aluminium - fine for us and great that the chairs are the right height for the table.

Aluminium slatted table (folds down and fits in a bag) and Quest Sandringham chairs (a little bulky but not too heavy IMHO).

We've got an aluminium roll-up slatted table & these chairs http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DUKDALF-BLUES-CAMPING-CHAIR---GREY-STRIPE_W0QQitemZ170498822428QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=&rvr_id=&cguid=7a70728d1250a0e202159ba5ffa38763

Chairs are really comfy, really light & we also bought the matching footrest which was put to good use at the weekend.

For dining, we have two lightweight folding chairs (metal-framed with leathercloth seats and backs), and use the caravan table in the awning.  For relaxing, a pair of Lafuma recliners do the job nicely.

Thanks for the replies.

There are some great ideas for us, we are really keen on the aluminim table ideas.

Thanks for suggestions on the plastic table and chairs, but we dont really fancy those.

Hi Caris.  I woulod say that one thing you particularly need to pay attention to is the chair-to-table height measurements for your Grandson.

Our lad (now 13) tended to find that most camping chairs left him sat too low down for eating and a lot of the folding lightweight alu camping tables have criss-cross bars/spars underneath which prevent you from drawing a chair up really close to the table.  Not much fun being too low and too far from the table and then knocking into the bars/spars every time you try to sit down/stand up - tipping over everying on the table!

We have eventually settled on a square alu camping table, which has tubular legs which screw into each corner (so all four sides of the table have full knee room). The table legs can be adjusted slightly for uneven ground.   The table folds in half and has a carrying handle (like a suitcase) and the legs are stored in clips under the table top.   We chose some very light Lafuma alu chairs - which happened to have seats which were slightly higher than other leisure chairs.

Mrs U-M
