We have a Coachman Festival (dealer special of the Amara) 550/5.  It's 2009 altho we didn't collect it til January.

This weekend we took SIL way with us & found the sleeping arrangements a bit awkward with it being 2 double beds plus pull-out bunk.  There were enough beds but OH had to sleep with DS(14) - not good when they both kick like mules.  I'm not close enough to SIL to want to share a bed with her so we slept on the front settees rather than pull the bed out & it wasn't comfy as they're not quite long enough.  DS(5) had his bunk.

It got us thinking that the 570/6 (new model for this year) would be a better layout for us with the fixed single bunks at the back - not just for when we take anyone else but also less beds to have to make up every night when it's just the 4 of us.

Problem is, how much money would we lose on our van which is really only 7mths old & will have been slept in for a total of 27 nights by the end of August?

Has anyone else changed so soon after getting a brand new van?  Did you lose a lot on it?

Awning and pup tents spring to mind in this situation. Not sure how much the dealer would want to make out of you when changing, bet thing possibly is to ask them?

I'd check out the weight restrictions on the model with bunks first.  Even fixed bunks have quite low weight limits and some will only really be suitable for smallish children.

You would loose on two lots of VAT for a start, what you paid on the original one and what you will pay on the new one. Thers also two lots of delivery fee, not sure how much it is now but would expect it's around £500 a van.
They are'nt bothered how many times it's been slept in to them it has to be sold as used and I feel you will loose a lot but then it depends on your dealer, he may know of a customer for yours and be kind to you.

it wasn't comfy as they're not quite long enough.

Just check the lenght of the beds in the "new van" first, as when I tried them, they were a bit on the short side for me, and I'm only 5ft 9 inches.

Jim.

Thanks everyone.

We've been struggling to find a dealer with a 570 in stoc - they're mostly sold out for this year & won't quote a part ex price against a van they can't supply.  Anyway, found one today & he offered £12k (we paid £15.3k) so I don't think we'll be bothering.

It's not worth it for the few nights a year we'll have SIL with us so DS will have to sleep in the awning in future (didn't take the inner this time as were at Marton Mere & Haven don't permit it but saw loads of others doing it).

We'll ask around at the NEC show in October but think we'll be sticking with the one we have.  Nothing negative to say about the van itself & would rather stick with our Coachman with a slightly wrong layout at the back than change to another manufacturer - we love the finish & spec on ours.

Anyway, suppose we'll only have another 2-3 years before DS announces he wants to stay home with his big brother (19).  Then there'll only be 3 of us (plus SIL once in a while).

I know it's a lot to lose but, to be honest, I thought it would be a lot worse than that, especially since there was a lot of VAT in that £15,300 original purchase.
