I have just updated my recently purchesedTomTom and it now have a choice of "Vehicle type" - Car, Van, Lorry or Bus. Would the last 2 be suitable for Caravans and has anyone put this to the test?

It will be interesting to ask for a Car route and then a Lorry route for the same destination and compare.

When updating Maps you may need a SD or Micro SD Memory Card - if your satnav has a card slot as there may not be sufficient Internal Memory to accept the download. It is also recommended by TT to 'Backup' before downloading new maps.

I realise that the savvy Satnav owners will know this, but it was all new to me and has been a struggle to do all the necessary updating.

I'm far from a wizard on these things Mike, but I update mine regularly on TomTom home. I had to call their technical support number for guidance through the TomTom home site but then I was fine with it.

As far as choosing which map to use dependant on the type of vehicle you're using, I use mine 99% of the time in my lorry but I don't change the map I use. However, if it told me to go down a road I didn't like the look of, I'd call my delivery point to confirm the use of this road or I'd ignore the SatNav & let it find another route. I prefer to choose whether or not I'm going to go down that road.

I wouldn't want to be without the TomTom though, it's very handy.

I don't believe the vehicle type options make any difference at all on virtually all sat navs.

They are very useful but need to be interpreted with a good dose of common sense and mapreading

the  mark one eyeball is the best sat nav on the market although when your eyes fail a visit too specsavers or any other suitable establishment is in order

the mark one eyeball has a large capacity for storage attached although this can get distracted at times by other things and does occasionaly make errors
