We saw a Pegasus 534 being towed by a Ford Focus 2 seat convertible! Have just checked the weights etc for this combination and, as we thought, this is surely not a safe tow!
That can never be right. That caravan surely is far too heavy for that car? We've all seen cars/caravans on their sides on motorways! I certainly wouldn't want to be towing a big van with such a small car!
The kerbweight if its the 2.0 tdci duratorque model is 1630kgs and max tow is 1450kgs , however the 534 has a MPTLM of 1482 so if the van is loaded to max it would be illegal .
I would welcome more roadside check's and if outfits were found to be illegal the driver's should be prosecuted
Gosh, that is unbelievable! It certainly looked as if it would be a bad match, a very small car and a big caravan! Hopefully the car IS capable of towing safely, but it just looked wrong!
hi sound a bit odd but i pull a sterling europa495 with a vectra 1.9 cdtdi 120 bhp and they say it is at 91% just done 900 miles in the last 2 weeks and had not problems but iam thinking of changing my towing car
Convertibles are often heavier than the corresponding hatchback model because they need a lot of extra reinforcement to the body because in a hatchback the roof makes the structure strong similar to a box section.
