I am no longer a member of the CC so thought I could no longer be covered by Mayday breakdown. Not the case, I renewed recently and was told by Mayday that I can remain with them, no problems.
My AA renewal came through the other day - £162 for roadside, home start and relay - so I've been comparing. I'm not looking at onward travel because I don't go away for more than a few days at a time so would probably prefer to go home to get things sorted.
Green Flag comes out at £93.45, RAC at £82.07 (strangely Arrival through the C&CC is £121.13) and Kwik Fit at £72.70. Kwik Fit mention in the details that the caravan is also covered. Of course these all include the one-line discount.
There's also First Call which has similar cover for £32.00 but I don't know anything about them.
I'm confused now!

If you want to cover the caravan "breaking down" e.g. punctures or anything that means you can't tow it, the only option is the CC's Mayday scheme or RAC Arrival through the C&CC. All the others only cover he car breaking down.
I've checked with Green Flag (not Mayday) and the caravan is covered so long as it's attached and being towed and Saga specifically say they cover the car or caravan for punctures.
I've tried phoning the AA to see if I can get them to price match but they're busy and no option to hold.

We are with the AA and their terms and conditions state:"Assistance will also be provided for a caravan or trailer which was on tow at the time of the breakdown, provided it falls within the (weight and width) limits". I have just phoned them to ask if this includes a breakdown to the caravan or trailer itself, eg needing assistance with changing it's tyre (assuming you have a spare of course), and they said yes it would be covered. I can't think of anything else that realistically could go wrong with a trailer or caravan and that couldn't be repaired that would prevent it still being towed.

If your caravan broke down on a campsite the AA would not recover it - I can remember pushing a car out of a campsite before now for the RAC to recover it let alone a caravan - there are a number of things that can happen to a caravan on site that could stop it from being hitched up and pulled off site, but at least both the Arrival and Mayday schemes will come on site and rescue you and both, should you break down on the way to your holiday destination, will take you to your pre-booked campsite and then home again if your tow vehicle is not fixed within the time of your holiday
------------- Caravanning is a way of getting a cheap holiday out of an expensive hobby
Point taken about AA not recovering if the caravan is not on tow. I only have a folding camper and I can't think of much that could happen on site that would stop me hitching it up and towing it away or perhaps I'm being too complacent.
My particular concern is if the AA would come out to a problem with the trailer while on tow and This thread has a couple of actual examples of where the AA has come out and repaired a caravan, so I'm more reassured.
That's not to say that Mayday and Arrival aren't more comprehensive schemes.
