Hi
We are new to all this and have bought a 1991 Sprite 5 berth, we bought a magic mover from ebay with the intention of my OH fitting it himself. Having looked at the chassis on our caravan, OH discovered that there is a cross bar either side of the wheels right where the motor mover would usually go. If he drops it down below this there will only be 3" ground clearance for the mover.
Does anyone have any advice/experience that might help us.
Thanks - Susan

If he is looking at fitting in front of the wheels then consider fitting behind the wheels, or vice versa. The mover works very well either in front of or behind the wheels.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

You need more than three inches ground clearance. Even speed humps will catch that.

Hi lucyloo2, Welcome to the forum, 3inches from ground is far too low, should be around about 6inches i think, not being familiar with your van chassis cant say for sure if mover can't be fitted, movers are normaly fitted to the lower part of chassis so, unless crossbar are very near the wheel, you should be able to fit the clamps on,do'nt know how deep your mover is, it maybe that the chassis is only 6 inch deep insead of the normal 7 inches, check the depth of chassis at the deepest part of it thats where the axel is, measure chassis from underside of caravan floor toward the ground, if cassis measures 6 inch in depth, it my mean that mover too big for van, there is only one mover i think at the moment that will fit this depth of chasis, the Reich mover and are expensive, On this site there is a fix/repair/maintenance section could post there, sure to find what you are looking for. hope this helps.

We had a Powertouch on our previous van and when we changed it we discovered we couldnt get the mover on it. I contacted PT and they told me we could not use the mover on that van due to not enough clearance [we had 5"] so if you only have 3 I'm afraid its nowhere near enough. We sold that van and the mover seperately.

The Big foot type are not nearly as good as the latest motormovers that use the caravans main wheels to drive and steer the van. the trouble with the big foot type is that they are prone to getting stuck in mud or softter surfaces, gravel ect, and simply dont have the traction as they only turn the jockey wheel and not the vans main wheels under power. For that, and other reasons, such as being heavy on the hitch weight, they soon lost favour to the modern movers we have today.
