I'm off on the Caravan Club Practical Caravanning course tomorrow, Feeling nervous but excited too. I'll be on my own so if anyone else is attending this course at Chipping Warden this weekend please come over and say hi to the 50+ lady on her own. Hope to see someone there. Wish me luck, I'll need it.
Just to wish you the best of luck. You will have a FANTASTIC time! It's really easy - honestly. Just take your time and don't be afraid to ask questions - even if they seem daft!
You will be reversing onto pitches in no time.

Yep Marian good for you, you'll be fine and it will give you loads of confidence, enjoy yourself.
I went on one last year and thoroughly enjoyed it,there were only 5 of us on the course and we had loads of time to practice and ask questions. There was one lady booked to be on the course with us men but she didn't turn up.
Good luck Marian, hope you enjoy it. When you get back would you mind posting how you got on? I'm booked on one in September and I'll be on my own, so feeling more than a little nervous about doing it with a load of men watching me!

I did the course last summer too. Had a great time and wasn't the only lady - there was one other. Really good fun and you learn a lot. I feel a much safer "tower" now, which is just as well as the OH doesn't drive.
I did the course a month or so ago. It was great and a real boost to my confidence. Unusually there were 7 women and 5 men on the course I was on. And everyone was so friendly there was no reason for my nerves at attending on my own.
Hi everyone and thanks for the good luck messages. The course was very good and packed full of advise, I would definately recommend it to everyone. It was really strange as I was nervous about being the only singleton there, as it turned out there were only 5 of us and 3 of us were ladies on their own. Dave, who ran the course was excellent and extremely patient. Only 1 of us had ever towed anything before so we were all complete beginners. I now feel I can take the 'van out and at least frive forwards fairly confidently I now need to go somewhere quiet to practice reversing -which isnt as hard as I thought it would be but then I was terrified to start with. It's a start but a long way to go. It's really like learning to drive, you pass your test and then gain experience. It was lots of fun and we all enjoyed the weekend. It was amazing how much more relaxed we all were on sunday morning after a very busy day on saturday. Sorry to be longwinded.
This is really good information, thank for taking the time to post after you had attended. I've been looking at taking a towing course because I've never towed at all before. My husband does all the towing and being a Lorry Driver I don't tend to get involved at all. But he's working shifts now and we're rarely getting to take the van out at weekends anymore and it just feels like such a waste with all the good weather we've had.
He did say he would teach me everything, but I know it would just end up with us shouting at each other, so I've been looking at going on one of these courses. I was a bit worried about being a complete beginner but it sounds as though it doesn't matter! So I hope I'll get something booked up for September because there isn't anything available in the next month or so when I am around.
Bossynix, the chap who was running the course said he prefered complete beginners, as most of us were, as we hadnt got any bad habits to put right. Go for it and you wont regret it.
The only time I ever towed was about thre years ago when I towed a small trailer behind my tractor along a farm lane - I was ok till I came to reverse then made a complete mess of it, just couldn't get it right at all and my OH had to take over. So yes, I'm most definitely a complete beginner!
