When i got my calorlite bottle there was a notice which was attached to the gauge explaining about the gauge and it stated that the gauge will read low when it is 1/2 used, do you know how long it has been reading low? it might have just gone past the 1/2 way mark so you should still have plenty of gas, however if has been reading low for a while you might be naerly empty,
Have you tried weighing the bottle, if i remember correctly an empty bottle weighs approx 4kgs, were as a full bottle will be 10kgs this might give you a better idea of how much gas you have left.

My calor lite bottle stayed showing full until it was virtually empty and once tit started to move it fell really quickly.
From previous experience with gauges on gas cylinders I would use them only for an indication but weigh them to be sure or take a spare to be on the safe side if you're away for any length of time.

Yes the bottle contain 6Kg of gas and when full they weight 10Kg. We have found that once the mark shows empty we can run the gas for about 2 days and basically just using it for cooking. However, that then depends on when you first see it showing empty!!!!!! You will find that the best way of measuring the amount of gas left is to wait until its dark before you start to cook. Always runs out in the dark and then you realise that the torch is at home. Jim is right, carry a spare, we do. Meal times are too important to be messed about with.

There is a metal disk on the neck of the bottle which gives the empty bottle weight (rather oddly in pounds and ounces) so once you have converted that into Kg you should be able to work out how much gas is left. I went on a two week holiday with 1.5kg of gas and it lasted just fine.
I've got 2 calor lite bottles and both have a tare (empty) weight of 4.42 Kg. one shows low on the gauge but is currently 6.4 Kg the other shows full and is just over 7 Kg.
Yes I've noticed that the dial tends to deop all of a sudden rather than gradually
