Hi, can anyone recommend a caravan friendly service station on the M5. Will be traveling between Wolverhampton and Weymouth. Will be stopping approx half way. Thanks
I am travelling to Loch Lomand in June, would like to stop off arround the Greta Green area for one night. Do not mind service stations if you can park up safely, any ideas?
Maybe I misread the post, are you looking for a caravan friendly service station for refuelling or for a stop?
I've refuelled in Gordano services just south of Bristol and found there to be plenty of room.
We've also stopped there for the facilities but found parking can be difficult as they often seem to cordon large areas of the car park off leaving the rest of it crammed full. I seem to recall there is an area at the back of the car park for caravans, but when the car park is full it becomes a free for all or so it would appear.

Hoddom castle caravan park at Ecclefechan is not far from Gretna and only a few miles from the M74. Nice site if you prefer a dedicated caravan park.
Some might be caravan friendly with ample parking but it just takes the ignorant few who think its ok to just screw everything up for us caravanners by parking their mondeos slap bang in the middle just to eat the sarnies that wifey made for them.
We travel to Weymouth from Wolverhampton too (doing it next month when we go to East Fleet Farm) we stop off at Sedgemoor,we remember this as it is similar to Sedgley (you will know this if you live in Wolverhampton!)
I don't think you'll have a problem using any of the M5 service areas with your caravan in tow. They all tend to get very busy Friday night into Saturday morning but you'll find a space if you need to park up. The only thing I've noticed this year is Michaelwood has had a revamp on both sides & seem to have reduced the spaces dedicated for HGV & caravan parking.
Whether they're going to allow caravans to park in the lorry park when the caravan area is full remains to be seen. I don't see how they can stop a driver pulling in to rest because surely that's what the service areas are there for.

If it's midweek, then try Lockerbie truck stop on the old road. Sample some proper grub, not the over inflated services tosh.
It's situated between J17 and J16 on the B7076.
Just give them a bell before you go, and clear it with them.
Keep away from Bridgewater Services at J24. Appalling.
Tatty, cramped, small caravan space, low ceiling parking elsewhere, dirty dark hole for a cafe. And of course, priced like the food was made of gold. We took one look, used the loo and carried on. As we were leaving an MPV was scraping his roof box on the ceiling of the car park....
Taunton was fine, as was Gordano on the way back.
------------- Veni Vidi Velcro.... I came, I saw, I stuck around!
Yes Sedgemoor for me, we travel overnight and have always pulled into Sedgemoor and managed to get into the bottom corner facing the exit. Flask of coffee and a sandwich, hour and a halfs sleep and on our way, as long as we dont stay longer than the free two hours alls well.
