Does anyone else have this problem.  Whenever we want just cold water out of the caravan tap, the water keeps running from cold to warm, then cold again, we can never get just cold water, we always end up with a bowl of lukewarm water for the dogs. I might add we use water purifier tablets in our water hog just in case you were wondering why we would be drinking the water from the caravan tap!

Does this burst of warm water happen only once, and only when you first turn the tap on?  If so, I would suggest your cold-water feed sits right next to the hot water tank, so the water in the pipe gets warm.  If this is the case, maybe some lagging on the cold-water pipe will solve the problem - trace the pipe back from the tap to the inlet and see if it comes in contact with the hot-water system.

I don't see any problem with drinking water from the hog if is is drinking water - that is the idea after all

Two things spring to mind re the hot/cold cycling:

1. what tap do you have? If a single lever could the seal have gone on the bottom of the ceramic cartridge causing a leak between hot and cold.

2. A possibility that the non-return valve is stuck open on your water heater causing hot water to bleed out into the cold supply

Can't answer your problem but why not drink water from the caravan tap? We put drinkiing water into the aquaroll so  why not drink it! We certainly don't bother with purifying tablets,

I steerilize with Milton Sterilizing tabs at the beginning of the season (and also pump thru the taps) rinse thoroughly before using. Then just make sure that the tank is fully air dried before storing for next time. Nothing can live in a fully dry tank. You might need purifying tablets abroad, but if you fill the tank from a tap that has a drinking water sign, you needn't fear in the UK!

Yes I sterilize at start of season. Only drink bottle abroad and if we have used "abroad" water through the van sterilize the system when we get back.

We had asimilar problem last week with our bathroom tap in the caravan, which is the single leaver type, we cannot get cold water out of it at all, even when the tap is set to cold, after the first couple of pints of cold water thats been sitting in the tap is delivered it then turns really hot, and i dont think that its any problem with the water heater because the kitchen tap works fine for both hot and cold.

any ideas what may be causing this please?  its a right pain when were using a CL, because we cannot use the caravans shower, the waters is just too hot.

We too drink the water from the Aquaroll both here and abroad, no purifying tablets, no water filter, just a good clean/flush through of the whole system with Puriclean every so often.

Hi, could be hot water seal leaking slightly,as when you open the cold water tap, the water pump starts to push water into the tap it also pushes the hot water to the hot tap, even though it is off.and when cold water chills down the hot water tap seal, causing it to contract, and allow hot though into tap font, replace the seal(s).

OP ster, No cold water from tap, seal could be distorted and blocking cold outlet of the tap. replace the seal. hope this helps.

Julia we had this problem at our house.  We also had just the one lever

tap and the plumber who we spoke to on the phone, said to take the barrell

part of the tap off and give it a clean, hubby did that but still no difference,

so we had to get the plumber out, he sugguest it would probably need a new tap, when he arrived  he looked under the cupboard and it

was just the pipes that were kinked, he un-kinked them, and charged us

£30 for the call out, we were well annoyed with ourselves!

This might depend on where your kitchen tap is in relationship with your water pump and the heater - if it is after the heater then you may be right but if it is before the heater the pressure of the cold water coming in is stopping the hot water from backing down the pipe work to your kitchen tap but in your bathroom the hot water is being drawn out of the heater by the flow of water.

Perhaps this may be an easy test - run the cold water on the tap until you get hot water out of it, then go to the heater and put your hand around the cold water pipe (blue one) on the 'up-side' of the water heater, if this is warm or hot you have a problem with the non return valve on the water heater.

Thanks guys, i will have a look at it over the weekend when hubbys set a hog of water up for me to do the cleaning ready for our next trip out, we only gave it a quick wipe out last weekend before we came home because we didnt have the awning up due to the high winds lol, so were a bit cramped for doing our usual clean-out routine on site before we came home, we had the wetest, windyest, week we have ever had so far since we bought the van last year!

worst bit was that we were on a CL without any shower facilities, so with only scalding hot water coming out of the caravans shower, we had to resort to having a good strip wash for the week and a swill down with a wet sponge whilst standing in the shower tray

I find this happens some times especially on our old Ranger 510/4. The cold take off to the taps is immediately before the pump feed goes into the water heater inlet. When the pump switches on, I think there is a spurt of water pushed into the water heater which causes some hot warter to come back out of the heater. This then gets into the very close cold feed to the taps. Increasing the distance between the feed to the taps and the feed to the water heater helps a lot.
