I know that many people have posted about Tyron Bands, but I wanted to come at it with a different angle, relating to modern rims & tyres. Are Tyrons necessary? Even with modern H2 rims? Are they necessary with new quality over spec’d tyres? Has anyone had a blow out with new tyres? Or just older one’s? I know reading through some older posts that some have had blow outs with Tyrons fitted, have come to a safe stop, but how do you know that this would not happen without them fitted? I think (IMO) most people have them fitted for piece if mind, but I question if they are really necessary, especially with modern rims and quality tyres.
I was told by a caravan dealer that they have stopped fitting them because they are no longer necessary. They went as far as saying they do not recommend them. I have mentioned this before on here and I don't feel I have had conclusive evidence one way or the other. Some fit them 'just in case', others say that it has saved them in a sticky situation, but with no direct comparison with what it would have been like without - you can't really, I suppose. Every accident/blowout is slightly different, so no doubt the tyres would 'react' in a slightly different way. Probably those who have them, swear by them, and those who don't have them don't see them as being that useful. So I suppose you pay your money and takes your choice!
Now, I'm off on hols. tomorrow folks, while the discussion continues. Take care and will be back in three weeks.

They have a TüV:-
TüV approved for 4km high-speed runflat.
TüV: Tested and approved by German TüV (European equivalent of DOT) at Autobahn speeds (225 kph/140 mph)
at the end of the day its a personal choice as to how you deal with safety, and in caravanning there are many aspects to entertain the mind. Its a bit like insurance I suppose. You get insured and you are happy, then you think about it and then also take out Roadside recovery.
