Hi guys,

We're thinking about putting our 'van on a seasonal pitch and wondered how people find it? Do you get fed up of going to the same place? Are there any drawbacks?

We've found a lovely site we like the look of, it's only 45 minutes from home and is open all year round. As we both work full time it'd be so handy being able to just drive over after work on a friday, open it up & sit down. At the moment the van is in storage a mile from home but it's down a lane which is single track in places which has put us off using it as much as we'd like.

Hi Esther1.We had a seasonal pitch for 12months. The place was idyllic and only 25mls away although on a Friday night it took 1hr to get there due to traffic. We did not get fed up of going to the same place. We enjoyed not having to tow and on our main holidays the time was maximised. We went every weekend and all bank holidays. However shopping on Thursday night was hard after a days work, and after 3 months it began to feel like we had two sets of neighbours. People at the site started to ask where we were if we did not go and maintaining the house, garden, caravan and seeing our grown up children and grandchildren proved to be difficult as we worked all week and away at weekends. Finally we also missed the excitement of touring and seeing different places. Regards Denise.

We have a seasonal pitch.  Love just going Friday night after work - sometimes we wait till about seven and have our tea before we leave as it's only 45 minutes away.  Like not having to do anything when we get there.  The security guy on site even plugs our electric in so fridge is cold for when we arrive.  Like not having to take awning down or pack everything away on a Sunday.  Our site is nice and central and near M5 and there are lots of places to visit so  will be quite a while before we get fed up and run out of places to visit.  What site are you looking at?

The one we like is near Market Drayton and we're in Burntwood, we have put our name down as there's a list of people waiting but hopefully some will move on after the summer.

We thought that we would maybe site it and then just move it once for our annual Lakes holiday and if we get fed up of the same site we could move it every year or so onto another seasonal pitch.

I understand what Denise says about maintaining it and not knowing who your neighbours will be but we're hoping they'll be like minded and a cheery hello will be fine we just don't want them for dinner every night lol, mind you with 2 gsd's we don't get many visitors!

I think it's a case of just trying it out.  We are going to try for a couple of years then either upgrade our caravan and stay there or move to another site but I like where we are.

Bill how often do you get to use the van. I travel to Cornwall roughly once a month and thats an effort I would imagein Bolton to Cornwall regularly is a real drag and not much of a quick get away..

We had a seasonal pitch a couple of years ago.  It was 10 minutes from home - but once on the campsite we could have been a million miles away.  We absolutely loved it.  Hubby would finish work on a friday and we and our 7 children would go for the weekend, every weekend!  The best thing was on a sunday morning watching everyone pack up and go, whilst we were lounging around.  We met different people every week who would pitch next to us and made good friends with other seasonal campers!  We're hoping to do it again next year as we have just bought another caravan after a couple of years break!  The children never got bored and treated the whole of the campsite like it was their back garden - it was fab!

I'd love a seasonal pitch but haven't found a site nearby that i'd want to go back to :(  Found lots that are further away that i loved but then they are too far away to get to for a weekend away.  I'll keep looking though as i'd love to just pack up the car for a weekend away.

Anyone know of a site with an indoor swimming pool and football pitch within an hour of North Herts let me know lol :)
