I have had an accident, and one wheel spat (the fairing over the wheel arch). The wheel is totally inside the wheel arch so is not protruding and there are no sharp edges?
It is an Abbey Aventura and I am told that swift are the only group to supply them - they closed on Moday for three week summer close down adn I am due to sail to france with the van in 2 weeks!
I told the garage I would take it without the spats but they say they think it is illegal! - The policfe in Wales let me drive with it after the accident but I don't fancy trying to argue in French!
No I hadn't. I see their delivery time is 28 days but well worth a call to see if they can speed it up. Also a lot cheaper than the £250 that Swift are charging for the part! Thanks Steve
it sounds like it would be legal. if its covered then the spat is really only a beauty item .my trailer only needs a mud flap behind each rear wheel. you could take it to you local vosa station and ask to be sure.
Hi there, provided that the wheel is within the wheel arch and not protruding as you say it isn't, then it is legal to tow without the addition of the wheel spat.
Enjoy your hols!
------------- When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money. Then take half the clothes and twice the money.
If in doubt I would take the other one off as well so that it matches, it is perfectly legal.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
I recently lost a wheel spat due to a puncture and the tyre ripped the spat off. Got one for £35 from the place below. they are on e bay and have about a dozen different shapes and sizes. All at £35.

You could get a set of for car wheel trims from a motor factor and probably have change of the price of one new one from a dealer and still have three spares. You could also try a boot sale or a market. There is usually a stall or two selling them in my area whenever I have had a wander around.
the spat is purly asthetic, as long as the wheel is under the arch, and no sharp edges its perfectly legal.
If it looks fine without, take the one off the other side, then it matches, who is to say it shouldnt be without...
I wouldn't take off the other spat just to match up. You don't see both sides of the van at the same time. If there is no protruding tyre ,then it is legal, both sides don't have to be the same
