Hi there - well after spending a couple of nights camping in our tent we have decided to sell the tent and get a caravan as my body and bones can not take the cold :( - nothing to lavish, cant afford that, but upto £1,000 to accomadate me hubby and 2 kids (boy of 7 and girl of 3). What do people do about the sleeping arrangements? Been taking a look round and not sure if I like the bunk bed ideas, scared kids will fall out, but then what about 2 double beds? Who shares with who or do we just get a smaller caravan and we sleep in the awning with kids in caravan?
how old are the kids becoues the sides on caravan bunks are quiet high to stop falling out. if the kids are only small can they not top and tail on the bottom bunk till there older i remeber doing that when i was little with my cousin when we were very young. we have just gone from canvas to tin aswell last month and love it

I think i was about 4 when i whent on the top bunk he will be fine. the other trick my mum and dad did when they too my dauter in there 2 birth with hem was. they both sleeped on the seats putting the back cussions on the floor in the middle. the seats without back cussions are very wide and then the 2 back cussions fitted in to the gap on the floor and the table was taken down and she sleeped there in her own space inbetween them. your son could then have a lower bunk to himself

I have two bunks in my van, not fixed you make the up from the rear dinette , and my little nephew who is nearly 3 sleeps safe on the top bunk, the side thing that you clip on to stop them falling out is quite high, he's slept on it many a time in his as he calls it bunka bed :) and your 7 year old will be fine on the bottom if in the unlikey event he fell out he wouldn't fall far at all from the bottom bunk to floor is about 18 inches.
I have side bunks and a large front double bed. None of the kids will sleep in the top bunk .Son is 11 and built like a tank so it wouldnt really be suitable for his weight.
The grandkids are 3 4 5 and 6 and none will sleep on the top, all say they think they will fall off.
the front bed is huge and we often end up with the 4 younger kids and my grown up daughter in it, and I take the side bunk. son usually sleeps in the awning annexe.
If you get one with 2 doubles, I'd let the kids share the smaller double.
we had a 2 berth van previously that had a big double bed , and it was big enough for 2 adults and 2 kids to sleep comfortably if you don't mind them being in with you.
Some vans have 6ft long front seats like ours, others have the shorter ones about 4ft long that make up into a double bed.
We have bunks at the back of our 'van, our 4 year old happily sleeps in the top bunk. It has a wooden guard that you can flip up from under the mattress for the head end and the back of the bathroom is next to his feet so the gap for falling is very small!
If youre going to let the kids share a double, get them a sleeping bag each.
We went for the two berth and sleep in the awning option when we first started, soon changed our minds! Dont go for less than a 4 berth, you'll need the room and in bad weather, you know you can all be safe and snug in the van.
we have a five berth - although we don;t use the bunk. We don;t have fixed beds but a double dinette - which means the kids can have there own end to play on a rainy day.
