We went down to Hillhead near paignton a few weeks ago.  We set off from north wales at 9:00 the night before and at around one in the morning pulled into michaelwood services and slept overnight (£15 charge).  Set off at eight the next morning and a couple of hours later arrived there with no traffic problems.

Comming home at mid-day there were awful queues going down in the opposite direction and a few bad ones on our side. 

I always leave midlands on the friday night at 6.15pm drive down to tauton deane - sleep overnight and leave for woolacombe at 9.00am never fails.

on the way back leave a 6.15pm at night or firat thing in th emorning on sunday - no problems

i think you should be alright, unless they close the motorway, you might find it busy than normal but if your going early you should clear most of the troble, fingers crossed, im going to cornwall over the bank holiday weeknd end and ill be on the road by 7am and should be there between 10 and 11.

Sunday will be a huge improvement on saturday especially if you leave early.

We went two weeks ago and left on the friday with an overnight stop at sedgemoor, it was very busy, we travelled back on the sunday morning just over a week later and was quiet in both directions....great.

Returning on the wednesday will be good too, just leave time to pass birmingham before 2.30pm if you can, so again leave early.

Hi We've just returned yesterday (Sunday) from Torquay it took 5 hours no stops to Chorley in Lancashire,it was a very good run as we left at 10am, no hold ups.

Going down there we left at 8am on a Thursday again had no probs it took 5 hours bit of a slow down as you get on A380 but kept moving.

sunday should be fine but saying that ive been stuck on the m5 in a jam at 3.00AM!!!!!!!
