Have had some problems with the Hartal lock on my 2008 Bailey Arizona.Latest problem is that the key won`t turn at all so can`t lock the van, last week the lock was stuck in the locked position with the door open so we couldn`t shut the door. I removed the lock, fiddled about with it,replaced it and it worked-for a day Apparantly this is a very common problem that can be solved by taking the lock apart and filing something down. Can anyone advise?
i did that with mine ..just file a millimetre off both sides of the nub of the lock centre ..the slot can be lubed with a little vaseline to assist the smooth operation ..one thing tho' the red and green buttons are a pig to get off without damage and when they do come out they fly off to pastures new ..took 10 mins to find mine on the drive ..i left them off because they were damaged ..just screw heads there now ...don't look too obvious the're missing ..be prepared to do it over again if not happy first time
Clanjones thanks for the advice=what does "the nub of the lock centre "mean?I have already removed the lock from the door, I assume that I have to remove the circlip and take the lock assembly apart, then what?
by the nub i mean the part sticking out slightly past the circlip ..the flat blade type piece of metal ..it just needs a little off the end of the length on both sides...it's pretty small but can be done with a small file and circlip pliers without taking it apart ..another method i heard of was to elongate the slot in the body slightly or file the little stops a fraction ...important tip ..do not tighten the lock body too much when putting it back on it will bind the mechanism again ..slacken it off and try again before you try to file anything first ..
We had a problem with ours, too, but, when it went to the dealers for a new window(stone chip) they fixed the lock and said we'd bashed the door frame out of alignment!!! Erm....no!!
Having read this, I think we've had the same problem! Anyway, whatever they did must have worked.
