We went to see a secondhand caravan at a local dealers yesterday as we are considering changing our van for a different layout. The layout seemed great for us however the van (2008) seemed to have more wear and tear than our 2005 van.
Since then I have seen 2 vans the same but a year newer listed for £1000 less than the one we have seen. Unfortunately they are hundreds of miles away and am not prepared to travel. Now we would consider the van we saw, but it would have to be reduced considerably, therefore my question is has anyone ever knocked a large amount off a dealers price, is it normal to try this? Our current (and first van) we just went in and paid what they were asking
Hi, Look up web and find the van you were looking at and compare price, and always haggle,as they seam to build that into the price, and dont be too enthusiastic, hum and haw a bit and compare it to your van, price and condition, and when salesman has to see manager, you know you are getting close to eating into thier built in profit. as they say if you dont ask you'll not get. good luck.

Our 2 local dealers vary greatly in what they put the vans up for but then the more expensive one offers you a higher p/x price for your van.
Regarding haggling we've knocked a huge chunk off both of ours and also had awnings, aqua rolls, waste master, & battery thrown in, the 2nd of our vans we sold back to the dealer when we bought our current one for more than we bought it off him for a few months earlier!
If you're trading in as well as buying they usually knock something off the price so its worth asking

Thanks, I've tried that link but it doesn't have the model that we are looking at unfortunately, I think I'll contact the dealer and see what they have to say.
It's amazing looking around a van once you've actually owned one, you look at it in such a different way!
I haggled when we bought our new van in 2008. Starting price was 12995: Got a discount of 1000 plus got the mover taken off our old van and put on the new one FOC and got a good package of accessories (Full awning, Waste& water carriers, EHU cable etc, etc)
Never forget the old saying "if you dont ask, the answers automatically no"

If it's a dealer special it'll be based on a certain model but have a different name so if you know what it's based on you can look the price up.
Haggle - our van was listed at £8,500. We said our top price was £6,000 - as we were walking out of the dealership the salesman came to us asking if we still interesting if they could do it for £6k, which is what we paid for it.
Pick the right time, we went at the end of very wet cold week so I guess sales were down.
Well I went back to the dealer and they gave us an reasonable offer, I got in touch the next day and it had been sold It obviously wasn't meant to be, however next time I think we will make a decision a bit quicker !!
