Hi All,

Just a quickie, were off to pick up our first caravan on Thurs (so excited! I'm driving the wife and probably kids up the wall!) and were looking to get a Porch Awning for it.  Have looked at NR Coniston Luxe and Sunncamp Ultima and can't decide.  The Coniston seems well made and sturdy but are they quick to erect, whereas the Sunncamp look a little flimsy and I'm not sure about fibre glass poles as they tend to be a bit low budget!  Any advice will be gratefully received, weve just had a folding camper when the awning used to take a good hour to put up and for weekends away that was too much.

Many thanks for all your replies

I've just this week sold my canvas awning as it took too long to put up and was far too bulky for storage. Took forever to dry also.

Back in May we bought a Kampa Rally 260. It is more upright and gives you more head/floor space...Big thumbs up for the Kampa

Got to agree with Slow Laner. We too have a Kampa Rally 260 and its brilliant. Hubby can erect it on his own in less than 15 mins. We are also going to sell our NR awning and buy the Kampa Rally 390 for longer stays. The Kampa Rally 260 is very big for a porch awning and you can also fit a double inner tent inside.

And me ! We also have the Kamp Rally 260 ! Very easy to put up and we had 4 seated at dinner in it the other weekend ! Just enough room !! It has also stood up to lots of nasty weather without flinching. We have the extra rear poles, the monsoon poles and the storms straps. All very stable and no flapping ! We have a two berth caravan and it fits over the door and leaves one window free. In hindsight I think I would buy the 390 for the extra room but I would have to check that it did not cover up half a window first !

Hope this helps, Shirley

Kampa Rally 260 for us too, brilliant piece of kit, we would suggest ordering the storm straps and rear support poles at the same time, as they can be a little difficult to source otherwise, some dealers appear to reserve their stocks just for when they sell their awnings, due to them being so popular and demand outstriping suply.

Or go for a bit of quality plus ease of putting up and taking down, together with good gale resistance by getting an Apache Monte Carlo.

We have a NR Coniston Luxe and when its up it looks good and is very sturdy. Much better than the flimsy nylon ones BUT it takes ages to put up. We might be getting old but we could put the full awning up in less time. We don't have a choice though as our van has a low awning rail and NR make to measure. We ordered direct from the factory and had very good service.

We have both an NR Coniston Luxe which has been superb, and a Riversway 390 which is similar to the Sunncamp Ultra, which is easier to put up but doesnt look as tidy as the NR one. Probably takes me around 30 minutes to put both up and peg out. The NR is a much better awning for all year round use especially in the Winter which we do use it. Down to cost too as the NR is more expensive, but ours is about 5 years old and still looks like new, the flimsy nylon whatever make will not be as long lasting . Another thing to bear in mind is where your windows and door are on that side of the 'van' as you dont really want the sides to be over a window opening, we are lucky with our van as both fit nicely
