Hi nick f,  and Welcome to the forum dont have the power touch mover, there are a lot of members on here that have them fitted, and are very happy with them, the model of mover  will depend on the weight of your van and the gradient of your drive (if that is what you are useing it for)the other power touch member on here will be along shortly and give you more advice  on the model  you need and how to get it for a better price than advertised (price matching) so hold off from buying till you get their info. hope this helps.

Hi Nick

I had the Powrtouch HD move fitted to my Bailey Senator Arizona (1500Kg) just before Easter. I wanted the mover because we have a steep drive onto a narrow road and reversing the 'van on was difficult and time consuming. We are, also, not getting any younger and it is a big 'van if it has to be pushed into place on tight pitches.

I have the electric actuator fitted and got the lot finally for £930. Originally P/T pricematched against the Rhyno mover the HD one and we agreed a price of £970. Then a couple of days later I read on another forum that P/T had pricematched against the Rhyno Lite which was £75 cheaper for someone with a similar size caravan. I went back to P/T and they agreed to roughly split the difference and knocked off a further £40O. I took advantage of paying a deposit and then the balance is being taken by 6 equal interest free monthly instalments - taken from my debit card.

The mover was fitted quickly at our home in time for our Easter break but I wasn't entirely happy when I discovered the guy had fitted the electronic control box behind the heater allowing the cables to fall onto the back of the heater. The P/T manual suggested it should be fitted in one of the bed boxes and I had expected this. The control box was, also, only accessible by a long stretch after removing the drawers. I queried this with P/T the next day and they sent a guy out that day who moved the control box to the bed box!!

I happily used the mover at Easter and it was a big help getting the 'van in/out of our difficult drive at Easter and Whit hols. Then in June I tried to use the mover to get the 'van out to be serviced. The rollers would not engage on the tyres nor even turn. I consulted P/T again and after running through some checks over the phone they agreed to send out an engineer. Anthony of A1 Mobile Caravan Services arrived about a week later and changed the Control Box - it had failed.

I did not use the mover again until the last Friday of July when I used the mover to move the 'van up our drive ready to leave for our 5 week Continental holiday. The offside motor gave a steady rhythmic click when moving the 'van. When I queried this with P/T they said it sounded like a bearing had some grit in it!!! The P/T tech guy said it would probably be okay but try not to use it too much!!??    I have since read on the forum that P/t have had a bad batch of bearings!!

I was pretty annoyed as this was the 3rd problem in 4 months and I had not spent the best part of £1k not to use it!! At first P/T said there was no one that could help me before we left the next day for Dover. I pressed them somewhat and they sent a guy called John who arrived c6.00pm on the Friday evening and changed the bearing.

We have used the mover and found it very useful and effective precisely placing the 'van onto 4 pitches so far whilst we've been away in Germany, Slovenia and Croatia. It has, also, been a big help at home getting the 'van on/off our drive.

I'm generally pleased with the mover but for £930 I think I have a right to be. P/T technical support have always been very helpful and responded promptly to the problems we have had under their 5 year no-quibble guarantee. I do, however, feel it would have been good to have needed less service calls!!!

Service response A1. Reliability??? I hope it improves!!!

Please post again if you have any specific questions. I'm typing this on the laptop in our awning in Croatia but I could not resist commenting as UKC members have helped us a lot over the years.

We have a Reich. It was on the caravan when we bought so it's at least 2 years old. We have used it regularly for over a year and not had a single problem with it !

My father bought one off Ebay for a £450 then bought a new van in the space of a week, already fitted with one so I bought it off him for £200 and fitted it myself. And Its easy to fit. saved me a fortune and it works a treat

Hi, wish I had dad like that, my mover was over £1200, do you want two rent him out, as he could take the strain off my pockets, with my kids, and the money i save would let me go away more often, seriously though that was good deal and as you say they are easy to fit, i could not do without mine now, due to major surgery cannot pull or push van, and without it would have to give up caravaning, one thing you should know about the mover is Dont have it on when AC connected to van, have mover isolated as, AC fluctuation can blow the control box circuits, It did happen to mine.

We have a power touch and to be honest its the best thing we have ever bought, I am very happy with it. Remember people shout louder when they have a problem with something than when they are happy.

Unfortunately their helpfulness over the phone doesn't fix the problems when you need them fixed.

My mover wasn't fitted properly in the first place - I think the fitter was in a rush to get home (last call of the day) because when there was a problem and he couldn't demonstrate it, he told me it was probably the batteries in the remote control, got on his Harley and was up the road like a rocket. It turned out that he hadn't connected it to the battery properly.

Another time I was stranded on a site because the mover failed and I was told by Powrtouch to just get it home and they'd get someone out to me in a few days. I've read on a thread here about them sending a fitter to a site to fix a problem but they were unmoved by me saying I was on my own. Fortunately I got help hitching it up but then had to turn the caravan manually 180 degrees on my drive when I got it home. That turned out to be a faulty control box.

I think perhaps the mover to buy is the one where people say they don't know what the after-sales is like because they've never needed it.

Nora
