We go away in a couple of days  and we were thinking about taking our camping fridge and using that in addition to the caravan fridge in the awning. Our fridge is quite small compared to the most of the fridges in vans of its size and I'm constantly juggling stuff or having to go shopping every couple of days.

Does anyone else do this and would it cause a problem on the electrics (the fridge is a proper camping fridge) ?

I always take a second fridge with me, just fill it full of pop and stuff, leaving the other fridge open to keep the food and serious stuff.  Its never caused us any difficulties.  In fact wouldn't be without it now.

we got 1 with our caravan . but its an electric 1 . goes in the awning. came in very handy. saved our bacon on hol because i thought our caravan fridge had gone on the blink. got in the van and i thought it smells funny the fridge woz very hot inside.( strange) . and wed just got back from morrisons with our food for the week . it turned out the fridge vents had been taken of at some time and sellophane put on the back of the vents and replaced..( no free flow of air so it works )so left the fridge off for a few hours . worked fine after that.

Thanks for that, think we will take it then, it will be easier as I won't have to consider the size of everything at the shops and whether I will have space for it!

Must crack on with sorting stuff out,

We always used to take an extra fridge with us when we went to France.  The portable was to keep all the drink cold.  If you need it because you don't have enough room in your main fridge then take it.  We never found it a problem in running both.

Yup, we also. Always take the camping fridge as well - can never have too many cold beers!

Cheers!

We always take our electric coolbox. Useful for days out, shopping, extra fridge space, and as a back-up just in case we have fridge problems.

It's also wise to carry a spare pump, small battery charger, small fan heater (esp in winter), extra hook-up lead, and various spare bulbs.

we take an extra fridge - for beer mostly - but I made up a gas pipe connector so it runs off gas like the one inside the caravan. No battery problems.

For the last few years we have taken an electric coolbox with us when we go abroad but we have decided that for our Autumn trip we won't bother as the fridge in the new van is quite a bit bigger than the old one. Many years ago we used to take a small domestic fridge with us but found it heavy and thats why we went for the coolbox.

We take a 240 volt/12 volt cool box.  It is kept in the awning and runs off the outside 240 v.a.c. socket, and only demands 30 watts.

Bertie.
