They are not evil ! Earwigs are good creatures to have around fallenangel, they eat greenfly you know !

Seriously though, they're not going to hurt you but I know not very pleasant if you get lots. God only knows how you'll get rid of them without using something a lot nastier than harmless earwigs though  We had a real influx of them in the house a few years ago, mainly in the gaps around the doors & windows & the mess of (accidentally) squashed earwigs was incredible - looked like treacle or tar everywhere.

Sorry - this isn't helping is it ? Lol !

They like dark places fallenangel. Mrs Z just squashed ours though it took weeks - there were 100s + 100s. I wasn't too happy at first but I had to agree the ruddy things were getting out of hand - couldn't walk out the door without a shower of earwigs landing on yer head, and the patches of squashed ones was making the wood all squishy like it was going rotten.

Why not try putting `traps' in the places you most often find them , or probably better still where you think they are most likely coming in - those vents maybe ?  An upside down tin on a stick usually will get lots going in, then you take em outside and - well that's up to you.. !

Hope you can get rid of them.

Hi fallenangel, You could put fly screen netting glued down over the vents, and seal any gaps around the entery points for gas pipe and cables, and waste pipes, vent in toilet take off vent cover glue netting over vent replace cover, could do same with fridge exhaust vent, fridge may need to come out if doing floor vents under it,unless there is some way that can be done from under van, possibily make small light mesh box then glue netting to it inside box, and fit over the the vent. that will help stop them comming into van, as for ones in van, could try a shallow plate with some beer in it, that works for slugs, may work for the earwigs too.

Don't cover the vents!!!(mesh is good idea though). I empty every thing out of my van then get the good old dyson/hoover in there making sure I get in all the nooks and crannies.

Hi Fallen Angel - Go to the chemists and get some Boric Acid powder. Dust around the vents. It's practically harmless to children and pets, but kills invading crawlies really quickly. Then after the 'van is crawly free, hoover it all out, then use the fly screen stuff, or even old net curtain to stop them coming in again.

If your caravan is parked under trees, near hedges, etc, then make sure that there is nowhere for the earwigs to gather and breed, they love shade, and damp wet places, especially piles of rotting leaves, etc.

I don't mind earwigs but I wouldn't want them in my van, I hope you find a method to remove them, I suppose earwigs need holidays too but really they should get there own van instead of hitch hiking in yours lol
good luck

Breaking news ! - Boric acid powder is now among those things the chemists are no longer allowed to supply to the general public.

Mrs Zorro tells me that whilst picking up a prescription last week she overheard the pharmacist telling another customer this. Customer said it was very good faor killing ants & what have you, according to the pharmacist  a very weak solution was also an excellent remedy for conjunctivitis.

Looks like you'll have to beg some off someone or try something else fallenangel.

I used dog flea spray you use in your house when pets gets fleas. this spray is from the vet.£18 a tin. it is expensive, but it gives you protection for 12 months, And it does what it says on the can.I havent seen any crawlies etc in the van since.

Agree with squishing them

An awful lot of things would make you scream if they dropped into your ear.
