Recently bought a new 2010 model sunncamp 390 ultima porch awning. It looks great and is easy to put up. Has anybody got any idea how long it is likely to last? It is of quite light construction, and the instructions say it will degrade with sunlight, strong wind etc. Just wondered if it is likely to last for 1 season, 2 seasons etc, or if it will last for say 4 weeks use, 20 weeks use or whatever etc. Your suncamp experience would be greatly appreciated. PS - this particular porch awning fitted to our van seems to give a great wind/weather seal to the van and as yet has not leaked a drip - some say it is useless! Ours has been all good so far - but i just wondered how long they last on avarage and as a point of interest how well used (or abused) is the most well used one that is still servicable . Interested to hear your replys guys...
------------- Why am i doing this instead of camping??!!
I'v never kept a lightweight for long enough to wear it out . We've always got rid of them as we've not been pleased with them. However, our Kampa Fiesta, which is not yet 12 months onld has been brilliant. Hope it will last for years.
We have had our Sunnicamp a couple of years, it seems quite durable and has exposure to a fair bit of our lovely weather. No complaints as I got it for £49 at NEC show!!! Normally used for weekends or at Easter when it is too cold to sit in big awning.

On these kind of awnings the seams may not have been sealed as good as you might hope so its worth spraying something like Fenwicks proofer (about £10) around all the seams, inside and out, on a sunny day and let the awning dry. Just gives it an extra chance of longevity. Seen plenty around that have seen a few years.
We have a similar awning of the Star Camp variety as we got a bit tired of putting up a full awning when there are only the two of us and it stood up so well in a gale a couple of months back. They may seem flimsy, but the nature of the structure, once up, seems to give it its strength.

Take a look how we woke up and found ours one morning lol, hubby squeezed out of the door and pushed it up from inside all the snow fell off and it just popped back into shape again, good as new.
Just shows how durable they are.

thats an awesome awning.
i got mine second hand from my uncle and he had it for bout 2 years and its good as new and should last a bit longer as i try and amke sure its all fine and clean
Top place Grinlow, if you set up near the bottom you can truly test your awning for wind resistance it simulates a high powered wind tunnel very effectively does that quarry!
Had our sunncamp 390 for 4 years had to retire it as it had ripped in 1 corner where the pole end fits in the pocket on the awning rail . I suspect I hadn't inserted the pole fully into the pocket so am glad to put it down to user error. Also one of the elastics snapped that keeps the carbon fibre rods together . In all for the price paid I was happy to get 4 years use from it . We tended to use it every bank holiday weekend and maybe 3 weeks through summer

And people go on about the weight of pyramid awnings on the awning rail, sheeesh kebab!! Proves your van rail is strong!
Mine lasted two weeks, tookit down, cleaned the skirt, dried it on the line when I got home and promptly left it on the ceramic hob, which was on low and melted a nice big hole right throught it. ( Dickhead comes to mind ), at least it did to the mind of the better half.
