Another security question.....!

We actually get our new (and 1st) caravan on Sunday. Getting a bit giddy - but we still need to get the drive ready etc for it. Which wheel clamp do you guys use/recommend?

Does it have to cover at least 1 wheel nut?

Thanks in advance

well, get a good one,you dont give the make of your caravan, but the more you spend on a wheel clamp, the better the clamp is, also get a hitch lock as well and make it as hard as you can for them to rob,ps hope you have many happy years of caravaning.

The Alko wheel locks seem better than most ans are not bulky either.

I have a bulldog, its very good, downside is it is big and bulky but if that out the theiving gits off then I'm happy with that!

Enjoying caravanning, realising what an expensive hobby it is and spending the family’s inheritance before they can get their hands on it!

I think most of these lock are to deter 'opportunists'.  'Those who steal caravans regularly' can get any on them off quicker than shelling peas.

Might be worth asking your insurers as some get you discounts eg Al-Ko. I think the ones marked "sold secure" are the better ones.

Milenco have a very good range and an excellent reputation  www.milenco.com Choose what you think is suitable from looking at their website (they don't sell direct to the public) then go online for the best prices. They seem to do everything from lightweight to seriously heavy duty.

Good luck

We bought a 1 year old caravan a month ago & as we keep it on our drive security has been a big concern.  At the end of the day you just have to think along the lines that nothing is totally secure so all that you can do is deter & slow them down as much as you can (get good new for old insurance) - depressing isn't it!!!  We went for an Alko wheel lock (the expensive one which is specific to your make & model & will fit the receiver of a new van) which was around £230 plus a Milenco on the other wheel for use just at home, plus a purple line saracen full stop hitch lock.  We also got a Pro-tec full caravan cover, mostly because we have blossom trees bordering the drive but also to blend in with our high privet & disguise the make & model & also the caravan security used from would be thieves.  OH is also thinking of installing a post & getting Winter wheels - what more can you do!!

I should edit to add that the Alko is a bit of a pain in the bum to fit each time - we've got a mover which makes it an awful lot easier as you have to ensure that the receiver is dead central in the alloy wheel hole.   However, when levelling at the same time it can give you a headache even with the mover.  The upsides are that its small, lightweight and supposed to be the best wheel lock so for us worth the hassle but Im not sure we'd go for it without the mover though.
