We're very interested in buying a static caravan but dont know where to start. I would've thought it was easier to find a caravan for sale on a site you like to save on moving costs??
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks

Hiya, in the mid '90's we bought a 2nd hand static on a fairly quiet site in ingoldmells. We paid £4500 for it. It was in really good condition , slept 6 and had all mod cons. ground fees were £1300 a year and insurance was £260. We used to sub let to work friends and never had any damage at all in fact we used to say we thought they hadn't been in it. After about 5 years we p/x it for a more modern van, bigger and more bedrooms. The groundrent used to go up approx £75 per year. We still let the same work mates rent it . When we decided to sell it we were told as long as the new owners kept it on the site we only had to pay for the name change (£500), I advertised it for £2000 more than i paid for it as i was selling it with all the TV's fridge etc and the 3rd person to see it bought it and now 10 yrs after as far as we know he still has it. we saw it last w/end and it hasn't changed a bit ... still well looked after. It can be no more expensive thasn buying a good tourer so weigh the cost of towing / site fees /storage aginst static fees.. whatever you choose enjoy

One other thing is you Dont have to pay council tax on a caravan park as they only open 11 month's of the year. It's the sites were people live for 12 month's of the year that pay council tax, if you have a tourer and choose to live in it for 12 month's you will have to pay poll tax if you stick to the law lol. Most holiday sites open march to oct so they get out of paying the dreaded tax lol.

hi have not known anyone who as sold a static and made any money from one only winner on a static is the owner of the site
we no from exprience
yes they are very nice at first but do you want to spend most of your weeks hols an weekends year in an out at the same place doing the same things its great at first
if you dont want to tow a tourer put one on a site for 12 months to see how you go on at the area you pick and see if you likeit after that
you can move a tourer easy but you cant a static and the site owners as you by the short and curlys
I'm sorry but if you buy a tourer and put it on a site for a year haven't you turned it into a static ??????, as i did say we had statics for years and can assure bitty that we did make a profit when we sold ours but as i said we did sell it complete with all accessories . we bought a tourer so we could do just that tour. It's down to everyones choice if you can manage with a tourer thats sited for a season then thats the way you should go, if you want more space then go for a larger van. All i'm saying is go with whatever you are comfortable with whether its towing a tourer or having a big static then it's your choice.as long as you enjoy it . we enjoy our tourer just as much as we did our static.
