I was thinking about letting the children personalise the caravan with some stickers (not paints!!) both as a bit of fun for them but also as a potential theft deterrent (it would make the caravan very distinctive and easy to spot. Yes of course the thieves could remove the stickers but they might not appreciate the hassle) and wondered why people generally don't do this.
Is it because the sticker glue damages the surface (permanent staining), because it would make the caravan harder to resell or because it's just not the done thing?
Have to agree with Cambridgecocney. Most people wouldn't do it because it would look stupid. If I caught my kids defacing our caravan I would be furious.
If they want "a bit of fun" with some stickers, get them a sticker book. They are a lot cheaper than a caravan and they can take them indoors if it rains.
)Most stickers will fade in the sun and the paper willwash off in rain anyway, just leaving sun baked glue on the paintwork)
Not my choice but as you said its your van, remember though that even if the sticker glue comes off you tend to find that the paintwork still looks different where the sticker was as it hasn't weathered like the rest of the van.
About time we had some fun.Why not ,the kids will love it .Only snag is if you stick things on,they take some removing without leaving a mark. I had to repaint the rear of my old van to sell it on. I had a sign on the back which read "Corpogreen esq, dead horse and donkey buyer"Now I just have it on a board outside my unit
------------- Corpogreen esq
dead horse
and
donkey buyer
once mines had a new paint colours mine will end up with stickesr aswell. i ahve done cars vans and scooters in the past and cant wait to do the caravan. I make my own though I buy sheets of good qulity vynal. To be honist dont think i would let kids stick them on though as allthough i like things unusual they have to be just right lol

Oh, go for it. Most caravans are deadly dull white bricks anyway. If I ever get one the urge to paint it with flowers a la Cath Kidston will be very strong! I saw a van on site in the Netherlands last year that had been painted with a design that made it look like an africal tribal mask from some angles. Gorgeous...and it was a fairly new van as well.
Do it ! Ok maybe not if you're bothered about re-selling (still not sure if it will damage the paint or not ?) but if not, well, caravans are pretty boring looking so I vote for the stickers.
As to "it will look stupid" - well, one man's meat..... being dull is worse !

Hey I would so do it if my OH wasn't so anal over the van, apart from the gteen stripe it has up the side and the zenith in green faux gem writing!! think it's a boring White brick, don't get me wrong I love the van to pieces but outside White can be dull, I would have flowers and rainbows all over it, I did put one sticker I made on my old Bailey pageant at the back, it's said The Bailey Banger!! in letters and the new owner still has thoes stickers on it :)
lion123 - I think that looks great. Subtle and tasteful (not what I'd expect from my lot!)
Brianconwy - I'd put the horses head on the top half of the door so it looks as though it is looking out. Given that you'll hopefully have nice enough weather to have at least the top half of the door open when on site it could give people a surprise when you shut the door and drive off
My current thinking is that I'll keep my van until it drops to bits, which would make me relaxed about resale value, apart from the fact that I know I'll get the itch to change some time well before the current van packs in!
cambridgecockney - maybe I should regard your comment as a challenge and see if I can get some pictures of the cuddly toys from the Corsa adverts and write "C'mon!" in big letters on the side :-)
we have had the stickers on cars for 4 years and when we got board we took them of a light t cut and polish and new ones went on no sign of the old one. when there putting them on give ythem a slightly damp cloth to rub any air bubbles out if they dont move put a tiny pin prik in the air bubble and rub down. have some fun its your caravanafter all your ddont paint your houes tha same as everyone else
