Tips...decide just what kind of cover you want for the way in which you will use the van. Check all insurers to compare one with the other to see just what it would cost just to give you what you need.
e.g. Many do new for old cover if the van is stolen/written off. However, there is a qualification. CC will provide new for old if the van is under three years old. For vans up to five years old the premium is higher. Lifesure just does new for old for caravans up to five years old and their premium is lower than CC. Aviva, mentioned above, does new for old replacement only for vans up to two years old. So if you are getting a new van new for old cover for five years may be your preferred choice. If your van is more than five years old and you went with Lifesure then part of your premium would be for something you don't need, so someone like Aviva may be of benefit if you are already insured with them.
Make sure you work out what your contents are valued at so that they are fully covered.
Check your household insurance as that usually covers personal items taken on holiday.. you don't want to insure them twice (at premium cost) with your van insurance so don't included them in the van's overall valuation.
Cheap cover means less cover so don't just go on price
Check to see if mileage is restricted although how they know how many miles you do in a year is a bit suspect.
If you are not travelling abroad see if they will omit oversees travel to reduce the cost.
Check what the excesses may be
Join the CC it may save you in premium cost with insurers
Go on the CC course as that can save you premium cost
Imagine something goes wrong on holiday...will the policy cover you for any hotel accommodation you may require ?
Will you be letting friends/members of the family use the van? If so will it still be insured.
