Our little sprite looks like she is finally out of action we cannot find an axle for her so we have been looking at either the adria altea dk with fixed double bunks or the bailey ranger with triple bunks but can't make our mind up. Does anyone own either or have views on either make of caravan??

We have the GT60 540/6 - if you do a search there's quite a few posts about it on here. We've found the layout suits us perfectly with 3 young children (oldest has just turned 7) and being able to give them their own space. There are a few different vans with the same layout (within Bailey and other makes) so look around if you can (and want to add to your options!) - our closest dealers are all Bailey ones so that's one of the main reasons why we went with a Bailey one, and the GT60 offered the best deal of included extras (that we wanted) for the weight & price.

I don't know the Adria Altea DK at all though!

Hi

I'm with Avctaylor on the GT60 540/6 :)  Our children are older and ds has his own room in the awning :)  But i wanted him to have a bed available in the 'van for if he needed it.  We have 2 dogs so the bottom bunk is always folded back and that is their bed.

I've never seen a dealer selling Adria's so can't compare.  But Bailey are very good on doing warrenty work, no questions asked, which for us was a very good reason for buying a Bailey and not from another manufacturer.  I fell in love with the GT60 as soon as i saw it :)  My dh gets worried when i am so keen to see the newer 'vans because he thinks i'll see one and want it but i love everything about my GT60 that nothing can even come close :)

Do you have an adria dealer near you?  If not it might be worth going to the NEC show because they will have Adria's and Bailey's on display so you can have a good look around and compare them.  I didn't like the Adria bunks as they seemed almost coffin like but i think it did have a wardrobe next to it which is useful.

hth and let us know whether you join the GT60 club lol

I have the Adria 542 DT (the one with the triple bunks).  I bought it about six months ago after spending a lot of time looking at everything I could find (both online and in dealers).  It's my first caravan so I found it a very hard decision to make (with experience I'm sure you start to form stronger views on what really is and isn't important to you).

In the end I went for the Adria because of a combination of:

*  the styling.  Not to everyone's taste (what is!) but I find it very light, airy and "unfussy"

*  the layout.  I wanted triple bunks and the Adria's are wider than many others I've seen.  I've also got a huge washroom which is great with three kids and three big dogs

*  the build quality.  In common with many other people here I saw some shocking examples of poor attention to detail (in brand new vans) but never in an Adria.  I haven't had a single problem (not even a minor snag) since getting mine and I hear good things from people who have had them for a number of years

*  the equipment levels.  Before anyone shouts, I wanted a caravan which didn't have a microwave or tv aerial or tv as I knew I wouldn't use them (so why pay for them and why tow them around everywhere)

*  the weight.  I've not towed before so having a van which is very well within my car's limits appealed to me

the dealer.  My local dealer (Kingsmill in Mansfield) were great and have been helpful since I bought the van.  To be fair I haven't asked them to do any warranty work yet (and hope I never have to!) so I can't judge their workshop skills.

*  the price.

One thing which you shouldmaybe check with a dealer is the relative availability of spares should you need something.  I've heard of some people having to wait ages for Adria spares but I don't know if those were unfortunate one off problems or part of a bigger issue.  I have no idea what Bailey are like in this regard.

Cheers,

    Derek.

I have an Adria and after seven years ,two kids and lots of miles she has never let me down.Their strength is their simplicity and along with good towing traits they are a great buy. Most caravans use generic parts,ie Dometic ,seitz etc so most spares should be available having said that i have never needed any.

Roll on!

We looked at the Bailey Ranger gto and an adria when we were looking, we settled for a lunar which I love, but if I had the chance to go back in time I would go for the Adria yes it's not all singing and dancing but the build quality and airyness it had is second to none, there is an Adria at the local dealer to me and I've been in it 3 times, I can't change my van yet but it dosnt stop me wishing lol.
Oh and the bunks are really sturdy :) I know I climbed into the top one and I'm hmm hmm 11 stone and 5'8

We have a Bailey 500/5 which has been excellent and suits our needs vey well. We were so close to buying an Adria at the NEC a few years ago, but the van we have was at a not-to-be-missed price.
To be fair, I'd seriously consider an Adria when the Bailey's up for replacement. Don't get me wrong; as mentioned the Bailey's been excellent; but the Adria has (in my opinion) a more roomy interior plus the bunks are far more generous. Although they might lack some of the facilities/features on the Bailey options, I reckon they represent better value.

Well my brother has just brought a new adria with triple bunks, reason for buying build quality and van being airy, plus bunks alot wider than other vans, we have a 1991 Adria 500b optima still going strong. there is a Adria dealer in rugby on the A5 used to be called broad lane leisure now i think its called Phoenix caravans, my brother works in the caravan industry repairing caravan and is shocked at the build quality of English vans. look long and hard for a caravan and do your research best of luck.
