Hi I've done the search on past posts but they havent helped to solve my problem just that 12v dryers are not worth buying.

We often rally with our caravan which means no EHU.

Someone must have been able to sort something out to help their wives/teenagers need for a hairdryer! (and please I've seen all the funny advice this subject can attract... something serious please..lol!! )

I have seen something about an ?inverter but not sure what that is.

Thanks

Dawn

An inverter converts 12v to 230v but at a cost of about 25-50% inefficiency e.g. a 1kw 12v hair drier (if one was available) will draw 83 amps, a 1kw 230v hair drier running through an inverter will draw between 104 and 124amps from your battery.

An alternative may be this but they have been out of stock since June at least.

Other that that I'm afraid it sun power or generator

Do still need to recharge it though... and being battery powered not much more use that a standard 12v hair drier?

To the OP, a thought...

Buy a 2000w inverter, hard wire it directly into your car battery (you will need cable capable of carrying 200amps hence the hard wiring) plug a hair drier in and use only when the engine is running and above tickover, leave the engine running for 10 -15 minutes after use.

Yes it sits in its own recharging unit you only get 8 mins at full power & 15 mins at warm setting per charge - which would only be enough to roughly do 2 heads so the extra battery pack they mention but don't seem to sell would be an advantage.  I have to say Im intriqued by it (apart from the price) as it could make a difference to a lot of people, but wonder how long the battery pack would remain at that level - would the drying time reduce considerably at full charge over time.

They also avoid giving a wattage - I suspect that it is no more than 125 - 200 watts about a tenth of the power of a mains version and therefore no better than a standard 12 volt hair drier

Hi, we regularly have no EHU as my husband races lawnmowers and we camp in fields!!!

I have to wash my long hair every morning as it is very greasy and could not face the world with dirty hair.

I purchased a 12v hairdryer and they only blow luke warm and eat up the power from your leisure battery so not worth it really.

I first put my hair into a turban style towel for about 1/2 hour then comb out, i then dry my hair next to and over the gas fire in our caravan.  It blows out the top like a convector heater, ten minutes and its dry.  Just be careful you do not get too close as you may burn yourself or set fire to your hair!!!

I know this is a bit heath robinson and probably not that safe but it works for me.

Regards Janette

Her yah go then - the answer:

Hi Rune,
?
It's 320 watts, 7'30" continue in use,?for the FreeDryer+75F. We also provide FreeDryer+90F
which has higher output of 380 watts but less using time of 6'30".
?
Best regards,
?

-------------

The 7'30" & 6"30" would be 7.5 minutes and 6.5 minutes respectively.

As they are 12v it would no doubt be possible to wire them for use off your leisure battery, if so then the 320 watt one would draw 27 amps per hour and the 380 watt would draw 32 amps per hour.

The gas one I posted above is the equivalent of 400 watts

No use whatsoever then - I have a tiny titan hairdryer which is 500w & 1000w - I use  500w on 6amp sites and that is just powerful enough to dry my hair and that takes longer than 7.5mins - so I'd have wet hair after the batteries had run out!!

Sounds a bit obvious but what about plugging in to the site facilities. We only go on basic sites and they will always let you have use of a socket.

Rallies are more often than not held in isolated fields nearest 13 amp socket could be miles away
