Hi to all fellow caravaners

can anybody help please, my carver water heater turns on ok but after a few seconds (about 20-30) the cut out operates so no hot water on our holiday, had to keep boiling kettles. Am new to all this as it was the first time I had towed a van but was disapointed by not having hot water to wash in or to take a shower(was not on a proper camp site) My caravan is an Eldiss whirlwind 1998 I think. Thank You in antisapation

Have you removed the outer cover on the vent? If it is still in place the cut out operates as a safety measure.

Carver water heaters don't have a outer cover

You are thinking of Truma water heaters

Just a thought while you're waiting... you did allow the gas to come through - sometimes it can take 4 or 5 attempts to light the heater due to air in the system

We had a similar problem when we first got our Elddis. We would switch the water on and the red cut out light would click on after a few seconds. In the manual this was called the Gas Warning light.
I came on here and got loads of help and advice and it turned out that the warning light was only a warning light IF I was using gas. I was using electricity and so the light was meaningless. I tried again, the red light came on and everything appeared to 'click' off and then hey presto! 15 mins later, scalding hot water!

Maybe just try leaving it switched on and see what happens?

Mine does this too - I have found it is when the gas bottle is getting low (but not empty) and is worse in cold weather when presumably the gas flow is slower - persistence usuall pays off and it will eventually start - The situation has improved (but not gone away completely) since I upgraded from a 3.9kg bottle to a 13kg bottle - I don't know why but it has!

When you press the button to light the heater do you hear a faint clicking that stops when the red light comes on?

If yes do above if NO the ignition is faulty.

When you bleed the water did water get inside the coweling ( the Square on the outside) this would stop the gas from lighting as the control unit thingy is directly in line for a wash if water gets in the coweling.

Let the water dry or take the cowel off 4 screws the you will see a tin plate take this off and there is a retangle item dry this with towel or something.

I always got water in the cowel.

Try this http://www.ourwanderer.org/wan28.htm#Method also it is very informitive and

usefull and your answer could be on here whilst waiting for more answers

Ratty hope the link is ok as it is to help someone urgently

If your running it on 230v then it will cut out if there is no water in it. thermal cutout switch. it needs filling up & bleeding the water through the pipes to the taps first before turning the heater on.
