hi can you please tell me what the numbers are on side of caravans,i.e Bailey Ranger 500/4??? what is correct or best way to measure a caravan?

The 500 in this case refers to the approximate body length, ie 5mtres but numbers on caravan badges don't neccessarily refer to length. To find out size of particular caravan you need to refer to the spec.

You have 'body' length, ie length of body & you have 'shipping length' which is overall length including hitch. For the caravan you mention shipping length is about 6.7mtres. I think.

the numbers are the MTPLM total loaded mass allowed.this weight should be 85% of your cars kerb weight to be safe on tow.to measure the length of a caravan go from the front of the A frame to the rear this is the shipping length.what year as i may have it in my book?. do you mean a 500/5 if so a 2006 is 6.73m shipping length.

500 refers to the approximate body length not including a frame.[5 metres in this case] The 4 refers to the van being a 4 berth.

what are you measuring for. If it's the length just a tape measure from end to end. If you're measuring for an awning then you measur the awning rail around the edge

look it up in the handbook

numbers sometimes refer to the internal dimensions   but not always   eg my vogue 470 is almost correct - it is 4.74 metres    but he swift charisma equivalent is a 5 something       

simple rule  - ignore the numbers    check the handbook - or look at the website
